We're looking for a hands-on Finance Controller to take ownership of our financial management and reporting. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys bringing clarity, structure, and control to a growing business, and who can translate numbers into insight for directors.
You'll be responsible for ensuring our financial data is accurate, compliant, and useful, while helping us improve processes and plan confidently for the future.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Control & Reporting
Prepare accurate monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
Monitor margins, costs, and profitability across the business
Produce budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis
Provide clear financial insight to support commercial decision-making
Cash Flow & Cost Management
Oversee cash flow forecasting and working capital
Monitor spending and identify cost control opportunities
Support pricing, margin analysis, and job profitability
Compliance & Governance
Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards and tax requirements
Liaise with external accountants, payroll providers, and auditors
Oversee VAT returns and statutory reporting
Maintain strong financial controls and audit trails
Systems & Process Improvement
Own and improve accounting systems and processes
Ensure accurate data flow between operations, payroll, and finance
Implement efficiencies as the business grows
Team & Stakeholder Support
Oversee bookkeeping and transactional finance activities
Act as a trusted financial partner to the Managing Director and leadership team
About You
Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
or
equivalent experience
Proven experience in a Finance Controller or senior finance role
Strong understanding of cash flow, management accounts, and financial controls
Comfortable working in a growing, hands-on SME environment
Able to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues
Proactive, detail-oriented, and commercially minded
Nice to Have
Experience in construction, trades, or project-based businesses
Experience working with Xero and Sage
Experience in scaling or improving finance functions
Job Types: Full-time, Temp to perm
Contract length: 12 months
Pay: 46,000.00-50,000.00 per year
