Job Description

Thomas Sherriff & Co was first established as a machinery manufacturer and dealer in 1816. The business currently has 6 Agriculture outlets and 2 Turf outlets, all providing sales, parts and servicing throughout the Lothians, Scottish Borders and North East England. The Agriculture outlets deal with large estates down to the individual smallholding farmer, and everything in between. The Turf outlets, based at Haddington and Cramlington, service local councils and golf courses as well as homeowners. The business other key brands are Kramer, Stewart Trailers, Dal-Bo, Trimax, Kuhn and Ifor Williams Trailers.


Based in Haddington, the Finance Director will sit as part of the Senior Leadership team at Thomas Sherriff and will be part of the Board, reporting into the Managing Director. The role will work closely with the four other Directors of the business and will oversee the Finance and HR function. The role will have occasional travel to other sites.

Key Responsibilities



Lead the financial strategy to support the company's growth plans Closely work with the MD and wider leadership team, being a trusted advisor and being integral to the growth of the business through financial stewardship Detailed daily cashflow management Attend and contribute at monthly board meetings, presenting key financial information and overview of HR Contribute fully to the development of company strategy across the business, being a key support with decision making and providing financial analysis and guidance on all activities, plans, targets and business drivers Lead Financial point of contact for John Deere and other financial institutions Business Partner the leadership team to help drive cost saving and growth opportunities Oversee all financial operations including monthly reporting, forecasting, internal and external compliance Ensure robust financial controls alongside the Financial Controller, identifying any areas for improvement and ensuring staying up to date with any required accounting standard changes Implement and optimise financial systems and processes Innovate other business procedures to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness Support and mentor the HR Advisor and Financial Controller and have overall responsibility for the finance team of 6 and HR team of 1

Candidate Requirements



A fully qualified accountant - CA/ACCA/CIMA with appropriate post qualification experience Strong technical accounting skills and fully up to date with all current legislation The ability to input strong controls and systems across the function and automate where appropriate to create better efficiencies An experienced financial leader, prior experience of operating at Board level and contributing to driving forward the strategy of an organisation Excellent team management skills, able to develop and mentor others Ability to develop strong, mutually beneficial relationships across the business Ability to prioritise and adapt to workload Strong analytical, organisational and decision-making skills Systems and data focused, high competency in using Excel is essential and experience of Power PI would be highly advantageous
