About the scheme
--------------------
Forget the stereotype -- finance at NFU Mutual is far more than just number crunching! Our Finance Graduate Scheme is all about shaping future Finance Leaders who can make a real impact. With a track record of keeping our financial strength rock-solid while helping customers reach their savings and investment goals, we're looking for ambitious graduates who are ready to dive in.
Over three years, you'll gain hands-on experience through two 18-month placements in vital areas such as:
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
- this team plays a key role in partnering with the business to drive financial performance and decision-making. You'll gain experience across areas such as sales and claims performance, strategic planning, and reporting to senior leadership.
Financial Reporting & Controls (FRC)
- this team oversees financial and regulatory reporting, ensuring strong financial controls and best practices across the Group. You'll develop technical expertise in statutory and regulatory reporting while also building relationships with stakeholders across the business as well as external auditors. You'll also work alongside our specialist Data and Tech team, who support finance with reporting and data management (for example, sales data). While you won't complete a full placement with them, you'll gain exposure to how data and technology shape finance decisions.
Properties Finance
- this team manages transactions, budgeting, and financial reporting for all NFU Mutual properties. You'll gain experience in areas like statutory reporting and budgeting, working closely with the wider Properties Team.
What you can expect
-----------------------
From day one, you'll be welcomed into a supportive, dynamic team where your ideas matter, and collaboration fuels success. We don't just set the bar high--we help each other reach it! You'll rotate across teams, gaining a behind-the-scenes understanding of how finance drives the business--whether it's managing risk, crunching the numbers, or influencing strategy. As you grow, you'll have the chance to partner with different areas of the business, providing your expertise and insights to help shape key decisions and steer the company's direction. Along the way, you'll sharpen both your technical skills and the leadership qualities that will set you apart. Plus, we'll support you every step of the way as you work towards CIMA or ACCA qualifications.
Your future
Throughout the scheme, you'll strengthen your core finance skills, earn qualifications, and develop essential competencies to set you up for a successful career. You'll be fully supported along the way, with a dedicated buddy and mentor, plus a strong network of current and former graduates. As you near the end of the scheme, a careers coach will be there to guide you in planning your next steps.
It's not all about work either. We encourage our graduates to get involved in extracurricular activities, from volunteering and organising charity or social events to representing NFU Mutual at industry events, all in line with our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework.
Application Process
If your application is shortlisted, you'll be invited to complete an online assessment designed to measure your potential for success, such as your ability to learn and solve problems. Should you be successful, you'll move on to a short video interview. The final stage will be an in-person assessment centre, where you'll participate in a variety of activities, including a group exercise, a role-specific exercise, and a skills-based interview. The assessment centres will be held on Tuesday 25th November and Monday 1st December.
Please note this vacancy may close at any time once sufficient applications have been received. Early submission of your application is therefore encouraged.
What we're looking for
--------------------------
To join our Finance Graduate Scheme, you'll need to have achieved, or be on track for, at least a 2:1 degree. While your degree doesn't need to be in a specific subject, we do prefer candidates with a strong numerical or analytical focus in their studies. More importantly, we're looking for individuals with a passion for learning, curiosity, and the potential to grow. If you thrive in a high-pressured environment and bring a positive, can-do attitude to your work, you'll fit right in!
For our Finance scheme, we'll also be looking out for:
Strong analytical and numerical skills
Good communication and relationship building skills
Digital literacy - particularly with using Excel
Time management and organisational skills
Initiative and self-management skills
Problem-solving skills
If you're able to bring these, we can teach you the rest.
Work experience
If you've gained industry experience or completed a placement year--especially in Financial Services or accountancy--that's a big plus! But don't worry if you haven't, it's not a must-have for the scheme. What we're really looking for is some previous work experience where you've had the chance to interact with people and develop your communication skills.
At NFU Mutual, we support an inclusive workplace and value all the differences that make us unique. We celebrate the creativity and innovation that comes from diverse perspectives and experiences and share a common vision of doing the right thing for our customers and employees.
We recognise that some candidates may experience barriers during the recruitment process. So, we encourage candidates to discuss any adjustments or accommodations they need to be the best they can be throughout our recruitment process.
We're proud to be a Disability Confident Employer, a Race at Work and Women in Finance Charter signatory and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, regardless of age, ethnicity, disability, neurodiversity, gender, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background.
