We're looking for a Finance Manager to help keep our finances running smoothly. You'll be working closely with our Chief Finance Officer (CFO), supporting the day-to-day financial operations and helping with planning, reporting, and ensuring we stay on top of NHS and legal requirements.
Main duties of the job

  • Keeping accurate financial records using Xero
  • Helping prepare monthly accounts and budgets
  • Supporting with payroll, NHS pensions and other submissions
  • Working on cash-flow tracking and quarterly income reports
  • Helping us plan for the future with clear financial reporting
  • Taking part in team discussions and decision-making
You'll play a key part in how we plan, track, and report on our finances, working with both our admin and clinical teams. Its a varied role with plenty of impact.

Job responsibilities
The Finance Manager will be responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and professional financial support within the organisation. Operating at a mid-management level, holding a senior position within the team, and reporting directly to the Chief Finance Officer, the postholder will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the practices financial operations. This includes supporting the annual financial cycle, producing management accounts, contributing to budget planning, and maintaining compliance with NHS, HMRC and statutory regulations. The postholder will work closely with the CFO and support a wide range of finance functions from payroll and pensions to claims and forecasting, using Xero to ensure efficient financial tracking and reporting. The role requires a strong understanding of financial processes within a general practice setting and a working knowledge of a company limited by guarantee. The postholder will ensure financial integrity while overseeing other finance administrators and working closely with both clinical and administrative teams to support strategic development and operational sustainability.   • AAT Level 4 Diploma or equivalent; or significant relevant finance experience.
Desirable
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business. Demonstrated bookkeeping and financial control experience.

  • At least 2 years' experience working in a finance role, preferably within the NHS, primary care, or charitable sector.
  • Demonstrated use of Xero for day-to-day accounting and reporting.
  • Understanding of NHS financial procedures, payroll, pension, and statutory compliance.
  • Excellent Excel and data presentation skills. Proactive and meticulous with strong organisational skills. Ability to meet deadlines under pressure, balancing competing priorities.

  • Experience in General Practice. Experience producing NHS financial claims and understanding of GMS contract.
  • Understanding of governance for a company limited by guarantee. Interest in healthcare finance transformation and efficiency initiatives.
  • Experience using financial dashboards and visualisation tools. Strong analytical and communication skills; ability to present financial information to non-finance staff. Ability to lead small projects or teams.
