The Role
We are looking for a hands-on Finance Manager to join our management team, oversee the finance function, and support the operational side of the business. This is a pivotal role where strategic oversight meets day-to-day involvement, including managing one bookkeeper who reports directly to you. You will also oversee the financial performance of Bridgman's wider brands.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Finance Manager will:
Lead and oversee the Finance team, including one bookkeeper, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and strong financial controls.
Play a hands-on role in daily financial processes, including cash management, reconciliations, and operational support.
Monitor and report on the financial performance of Bridgman and associated brands, providing insights to support decision-making.
Prepare management accounts, budgets, forecasts, and board reports accurately and on time.
VAT returns, Payroll, Pension and banking activities while ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
Develop and implement efficient financial processes, workflows, and controls.
Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, to ensure compliance and best practice.
Keep up to date with financial legislation and regulations affecting the business.
Support the implementation of new systems, technologies, or financial processes as required.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a candidate who brings both experience and energy to the role. You should be comfortable working independently, but also able to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with the wider team.
Part-qualified or fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA).
Hands-on experience managing a finance team in a commercial environment, with at least one direct report.
Experience within retail or trade environments is highly desirable.
Strong commercial awareness and financial management expertise.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both internal stakeholders (senior leadership, operations, sales teams) and external stakeholders (auditors, banks, suppliers).
Advanced analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and provide meaningful insight to support decision-making.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with a strong commitment to delivering reliable and timely financial information.
Advanced MS Excel skills; experience with Sage and Xero desirable.
Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically while remaining hands-on.
Ability to develop, lead, and motivate a small team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
