Finance Manager

Job Description

We are looking for a Finance Manager who will oversee all financial operations of the business, reporting directly to the Managing Director. This role offers autonomy and the opportunity to shape the financial direction of an established and growing company, while leading a small, capable finance team to ensure accurate reporting, financial control and process improvements across the department.

Working Hours:



Monday - Thursday: 8:30am - 5:00pm Friday: 8:30am - 2:30pm

A day to day working as a Finance Manager



Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts, forecasts, and annual budgets

Provide accurate and timely financial reports to support strategic business decisions

Manage day-to-day finance operations, including accounts payable/receivable and payroll

Oversee cash flow, ensuring strong financial control and stability

Run monthly stock valuation reports and post stock movement journals

Investigate unusual stock movements and correct anomalies via journals

Ensure accurate nominal coding and resolve any mis-postings

Liaise with external auditors, banks, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance

Oversee VAT returns, tax filings, and HMRC compliance

Continuously improve systems, processes, and internal controls

Provide commercial and financial insights to the senior leadership team

Mentor, develop, and support the finance team

Monitor and manage financial risks effectively

Handle complex customer and credit control issues

Deal with solicitors if required

Ideal Candidate:



Proven experience in a Finance Manager or senior finance role (ideally in a similar sector) Fully or part-qualified (ACCA, ACA, or CIMA preferred) Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting Excellent knowledge of VAT, UK tax regulations, and payroll processes Experience using accounting software and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving and communication skills Confident team leader with the ability to develop and support others Knowledge of CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) is highly desirable
