About the role



We are looking for an experienced and proactive Finance Manager to join our team in Halifax.

This is a key role, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, responsible for ensuring Magpies' finances are accurate, compliant, and well reported.

You will support the CEO with budget setting, forecasting and financial planning, produce accurate monthly management accounts, and provide clear financial reports for the CEO and Board of Trustees. You will act as the finance lead for the Trustee Finance Sub-Committee, ensuring trustees receive timely and meaningful financial information to support good governance and strategic decision-making.

The role also includes preparing year-end accounts, liaising with auditors, and ensuring compliance with requirements from the Charity Commission, HMRC, and Companies House. You will also build and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders, including the Local Authority, NHS ICB, Parents, Carers, and our Members.

Location: Halifax, West Yorkshire
Hours: 20-25 hours per week, to be negotiated within office hours (8.30 am - 4.00 pm, Monday to Friday)
Salary: 37,500 - 42,500 FTE (dependent on experience), pro rata
Contract: Permanent
Checks: Appointment subject to a full enhanced DBS check

About You

You will have:

A recognised accounting qualification or equivalent experience At least three years' experience in a finance management or senior accounting role Strong experience using QuickBooks or similar accounting software Experience preparing management accounts, supporting audits, and liaising with pension and payroll providers Ability to oversee day-to-day financial operations, including reconciliations, payroll checks, invoices and payments Experience supporting with contracts and procurement to ensure value for money and quality is maintained Experience supporting a Finance Administrator to ensure financial systems are efficient and robust Excellent Excel and reporting skills Clear communication and interpersonal skills, including for non-finance audiences A proactive, flexible and collaborative approach
