Finance Manager

Launceston, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Start your new career before Christmas, or start the new year fresh, with no late nights or weekend working. Are you a finance professional looking for a change or to move out of practice and into a hands-on, commercial role? This opportunity is ideal for a proactive individual who is looking for a fresh start or wants to step away from the constraints of practice and take ownership of real operational finance.

Continal is a 26-year-old Launceston based family business, with family values, that works across the UK providing builders and plumbers with energy-efficient warm-water underfloor heating systems. You'll join a forward-thinking team where your technical grounding, analytical approach, and drive for continuous improvement will make a genuine impact from day one.

Why choose us?

You will be based in our head office, conveniently located just off the A30 at Launceston. Here, we have a vibrant and supportive environment designed to help you thrive and be successful whilst also enjoying a long-term career that you can enjoy.

Team spirit: You'll join our Continal family, which means we care about your wellbeing. We enjoy team activities such as go-karting, quad biking, or simply going out for a curry together. We value our Continal family.

Career Growth: We genuinely promote from within, and we hope that everyone that joins us will, within 5 years, choose to become a candidate for a director post.

First and foremost, we are seeking a Finance Manager with the right attitude - someone proactive, solutions-focused, and able to take ownership of the finance function with confidence. Alongside this, the successful candidate will bring strong hands-on bookkeeping and financial management skills, ensuring accurate financial records, smooth month-end processes, and effective day-to-day control of transactions. Up to date online accounting software knowledge is essential, with preferred experience with Zoho, Xero, and SafeHR (or similar systems). You will be comfortable overseeing both operational finance, monthly payroll and commission calculations and broader business support activities. We are looking for an individual who has achieved AAT Level 4 (or above), or qualified by experience, and able to demonstrate a well-rounded, practical understanding of SME finance.

You will need to be comfortable reporting directly to the Chairman, attending Board meetings to support strategic decision-making and have the ability to work under pressure. Day to day you will be working closely with the Operations Manager, Finance Assistant and extended team.

Some of your responsibilities:

Oversee the day-today accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control and payroll, including commissions calculations Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including producing monthly management accounts and supporting journals.
