Role

The Finance Manager will have overall responsibility for the financial management, control, and reporting of the business, incorporating full management accounting responsibilities. The role will ensure the delivery of accurate financial information, strong cost and cash flow control, and meaningful financial insight to support operational and strategic decision-making within an FMCG and wholesale warehouse environment.

The post holder must be hands-on and technically strong, with the ability to operate effectively using Business Smart, Sage accounting software, and related financial systems.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Leadership

Take full responsibility for the day-to-day management of the finance function.

Ensure robust financial controls, policies, and procedures are in place and operating effectively.

Provide financial leadership and advice to senior management and key stakeholders.

Management Accounting & Reporting

Prepare, review, and present monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow reports.

Deliver detailed financial analysis and commentary, highlighting performance trends, risks, and opportunities.

Perform variance analysis against budgets and forecasts, providing clear recommendations.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow

Lead the preparation of annual budgets.

Maintain accurate cash flow forecasts, monitoring liquidity, working capital, and funding requirements.

Systems & Accounting Software

Take ownership of financial systems, including Sage accounting software, and associated reporting tools.

Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and effective system usage across the business.

Drive continuous improvement in financial reporting, controls, and system processes.

Compliance, Controls & Audit

Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards, VAT requirements, and statutory obligations.

Prepare and submit VAT returns and support statutory accounts preparation and audits.

Maintain strong internal controls and manage financial risk.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Qualified or part-qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ICAEW) or equivalent practical experience in a senior finance role.

Experience

Proven experience as a Finance Manager or senior management accountant within FMCG, wholesale, retail, or manufacturing environments.

Strong experience working in stock-based, high-volume operations.

Demonstrable hands-on experience using Business Smart, Sage accounting software, or similar accounting/ERP systems.

Experience managing finance operations and working closely with operational teams.

Skills & Competencies

Strong management accounting and financial control skills.

Excellent understanding of inventory accounting, COGS, margins, and cash flow management.

High level of commercial awareness and analytical ability.

Confident communicator with the ability to influence management decisions

Highly organised, detail-oriented, and resilient in a fast-paced FMCG environment.

High standards of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.
