Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Finance Manager to take ownership of the financial health and cashflow of a fast-growing construction business.
This is a practical, cashflow-led role rather than a reporting-only position. The successful candidate will be responsible for weekly cashflow forecasting, day-to-day financial control, and providing clear, practical financial insight to support decision-making as the business scales.
This role suits a Finance Manager who enjoys working in an SME, project-based environment, wants real responsibility, and is looking to develop into a senior finance leadership role over time.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Own and maintain weekly cashflow forecasting, including a rolling 13-week forecast and longer-term cash projections aligned to budgets and growth plans
Oversee day-to-day financial control, including bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll (directly or via support)
Actively manage working capital, including application and invoicing timing, retentions, and supplier and subcontractor payment profiles
Produce monthly management accounts with clear commentary on performance, risks, and variances
Support project-level financial reporting by reconciling cost data, validating project P&Ls and CVRs, and challenging assumptions where required
Lead budgeting, reforecasting, and scenario planning
Monitor and control overheads and project costs to support margin protection
Ensure compliance with VAT, PAYE, CIS, and other statutory requirements, liaising with external accountants where required
Improve finance systems, processes, and controls to support business growth
Work closely with the Managing Director, Commercial, and Operations teams to provide practical financial insight and early warning of risk
Requirements
Proven experience in a Finance Manager, Senior Management Accountant, or similar role
Strong, demonstrable experience owning cashflow in an SME or project-based environment
Experience overseeing accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and financial controls
Commercial mindset with the confidence to challenge assumptions and raise issues early
Strong organisational and analytical skills with attention to detail
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing business
Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CIMA, or ACA are preferred but not essential.
Experience in construction or civil engineering is helpful but not mandatory.
Experience working with project management or construction systems such as Procore would be advantageous.
Why Join
You'll be joining a growing, founder-led business with clear long-term ambitions and the opportunity to take genuine ownership of the finance function. Remote or hybrid working is supported, with regular in-person collaboration.
