About the Role
Reporting directly to the Finance Director, the Finance Manager will oversee the daily accounting processes, manage a small finance team, and play a hands-on role in financial reporting, planning, and compliance. The role demands someone who enjoys getting stuck into the detail, is highly organised, and has a good grasp of both operational and strategic finance.
This is a full-time role, 37.5 hours per week, with occasional evening or weekend work required, especially around key events or operational peaks.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Leading and supporting the Assistant Accountant, including regular one-to-ones and performance reviews
Managing daily cash movements, including forecasting and identifying any risks or shortfalls
Overseeing the reconciliation and reporting for all revenue from food and beverage outlets
Ensuring sound cash handling procedures and following up on discrepancies or disputes
Processing expense claims and enforcing adherence to company policy
Preparing monthly management accounts and delivering financial reports to tight deadlines
Working closely with managers across the organisation to support informed budgeting and decision-making
Keeping the fixed asset register up to date and in line with policy
Ensuring month-end control files are accurately completed on time
Leading the annual budgeting process and coordinating quarterly forecast updates
Assisting with year-end procedures and providing necessary audit support
Overseeing purchase order approvals and annual leave within the team
Administering payroll, pensions, staff benefits, and related HMRC filings
Maintaining finance systems, including user access and software updates
Preparing and submitting VAT returns within HMRC deadlines
Reviewing system audit logs and investigating anomalies
Providing excellent service to internal teams and external stakeholders alike
Carrying out other reasonable tasks as requested to ensure smooth operations.
Essential Experience & Skills:
Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA, or equivalent)
Strong working knowledge of Excel, including formulas such as SUMIFS, VLOOKUPs, and pivot tables
Thorough attention to detail and a proactive approach to improving systems and processes
Confident in applying core accounting principles
Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
Able to build effective working relationships across departments.
