Working across the Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre & Haverhill Leisure Centre
We are seeking a Finance Team Leader to join our Finance team. This is a key role responsible for overseeing core financial operations, including purchase and sales ledgers, direct debit collections, banking, VAT, and financial reporting. You will also contribute to system development, audit support, and continuous improvement initiatives.
While you will be accountable for these areas, a capable team of four Finance staff will manage the day-to-day processing. Your role will focus on ensuring accuracy, compliance, and effective team coordination.

Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership
Supervise and support a team of 4 finance staff
Provide training, guidance, and regular performance feedback
Oversee credit control, reconciliations, and ledger processes
Finance & Accounting
Prepare and submit VAT returns and provide VAT advice
Support the production of financial statements and management accounts
Provide financial analysis to support decision-making
Assist with financial strategy development
Systems & Technology
Improve financial systems and processes
Support system upgrades and resolve technical issues
Ensure effective use of finance software and tools
Fixed Assets
Maintain the fixed asset register
Advise on capital expenditure
Prepare asset reports and support audits
Compliance & Controls
Ensure financial activities comply with regulations and internal controls
Promote best practices in financial governance
Requirements:
Part or fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
AAT Level 4 (or equivalent) essential
Experience in financial operations and team supervision
Strong knowledge of VAT, ledgers, and reconciliations
Confident using financial systems and Excel
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
A proactive, organised, and collaborative approach
