General Traffic Ltd is looking for an experienced and proactive Financial Accountant to manage the company's financial operations and reporting. You will be responsible for bringing all company accounts fully up to date, ensuring absolute accuracy, strengthening compliance and building a professional financial reporting framework.
This is
not
a standard financial accountant role -- this is a hands-on, strategic, high-impact position that will transform, enhance and strengthen the financial management of the entire company.
Bring all company accounts fully up to date with absolute accuracy
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management accounts
Finalise outstanding statutory accounts and ensure all filings are correct
Reconcile balance sheets across multiple companies
Resolve historical discrepancies, mis-postings, intercompany balances, and nominal code issues
Ensure VAT, CT600s, payroll and pension submissions are accurate and up to date
Liaise with HMRC, tax authorities and external auditors
Work closely with auditors on year-end accounts and audits
Management Accounts & Reporting
Build and automate professional monthly management accounts packs
Produce budgets, profit & loss reports and variance analysis
Set up cost centres, tracking categories, and reporting structures
Provide clear financial insights, KPIs and performance reporting to Directors
Improve internal controls and introduce efficient month-end processes
Payroll, Pensions & Payments
Oversee payroll, including deductions, sickness and bonuses
Review and ensure compliance with auto-enrolment and pension schemes
Reconcile bank statements and authorise payments (BIB, wire transfers, etc.)
Ensure timely payment of supplier invoices and effective credit control
Leadership & Collaboration
Line manage the Accounts Supervisor and oversee the Accounts Department
Attend management meetings and provide financial insight
Support sales and management teams with financial information for proposals
About You
Essential
Fully qualified (ACCA / CIMA) or equivalent experience
Strong understanding of financial and management accounts
Highly organised, proactive, and solution-driven
Confident working under pressure with multiple deadlines
Excellent communication skills and ability to advise Directors directly
Expert user of Microsoft Excel (Formulas such as VLOOKUP), Word and Outlook
Fluent in English
Desirable
Experience with accounting system automation
Knowledge of VAT exemptions for regulated care
Familiarity with pension schemes (NOW: Pensions)
Experience with Sage or in-house finance systems
