Job summary




Scottish Forestry is an Executive Agency of the Scottish Government responsible for forestry policy regulatory and support functions. We are a progressive agency passionate about the vital role trees and woodlands play in tackling climate change, halting nature loss, supporting Scotland's economy, and improving the wellbeing of its people. We provide expert advice to Ministers on forestry policy, support and work with landowners, forestry professionals, communities and a wide range of stakeholders interested in forestry across Scotland.



The Finance and Business Support (FBS) Team plays a key role in enabling the Agency to achieve its strategic objectives. The team is committed to continuous improvement and delivering a high-quality professional service across the organisation. The FBS are split into two areas Finance and Business Support. The Finance team which you will be part of is responsible for inputting invoices into the finance system, providing key financial information and guidance to the organisation, budget monitoring, procurement and finance systems. Due to the relatively small size of both areas, there is a collaborative approach with some crossover between roles, encouraging flexibility and shared learning.



We have an exciting opportunity for qualified or part qualified Accountant to join the Finance team as a Financial Accounting Manager. This is a new role within the team aimed at strengthening our financial capabilities and play an important role in the evolution of the wider Agency.

Job description




Lead on the Finance and Expenses Systems ensuring that all invoices and journals are processed accurately and payments runs are made in line with guidance. Also, you will look at ways to improve the systems and reports to make them work more efficiently for the team and the organisation.



You will support the Senior Finance Manager in a variety of areas including providing guidance across the organisation, the Annual Report and Accounts and deputise for them in their absence.



You will develop the team, individually and corporately, to deliver continuous improvement that benefits the individual and the organisation.



You will build partnerships and maintain relationships with regional and functional leads in conjunction with the Finance Business Partner, to improve the impact and understanding of financial reporting and business performance.

Person specification



Experience




Essential:

Experience of annual report and accounts. Experience in leading, directing and developing a team to achieve shared success. A working knowledge of VAT returns Preparing budgets Giving guidance on financial matters Working in partnership with stakeholders Analysing financial information Prioritising tasks and respond to competing demands Communicating and presenting financial information to colleagues across the organisation. Managing staff


Desirable:

Transformation of procedures An extensive knowledge and experience of the Contracted-Out Services of VAT Previous experience with both Internal and External Auditors Some procurement knowledge Some finance systems knowledge

Technical



Essential:

The candidate is QBE with significant experience Skilled in the use of Finance Systems Skilled in packages such as Word, Excel and Outlook. Excellent numeracy and analytical skills; with the ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations


Desirable:

The successful candidate will be CCAB (or equivalent) qualified or part qualified (working towards being fully qualified)
