About the role:
The Financial Controller will be professionally qualified and lead the Finance department which consists of a team of one full time employee and part-time support as required. This is a great role with a degree of autonomy and the opportunity to work within a small team and develop the role as the individual sees fit.
Reporting directly to the board, the individual will be responsible for financial oversight, planning and budgeting, cost analysis, investment analysis, and working capital strategy.
This role requires the individual to take on a strategic role in the business, working alongside the senior management team to enhance performance and decision making.
Key Accountabilities:
Cashflow forecasting for both GBP and USD.
Preparation of quarterly management accounts.
Regular Balance Sheet reconciliations.
To produce monthly analysis such as sales, margins, product, and profit.
Preparation of monthly payroll data for submission to external payroll company (to include maintaining HR records).
Quarterly VAT Return and submission.
Corporation tax planning.
Financial risk management and compliance.
Responsible for completion and submission of any ONS.
Provide continual support for the finance team members identifying when training or development may be required.
Maintaining relationships with third parties, such as the bank, insurance brokers, pension and benefit providers, and HMRC.
Preparation of the annual budget.
Responsible for the preparation for the annual financial audit.
System ownership of Business Central finance modules, ensuring data accuracy and driving process improvements.
The above list is not exhaustive, many additional ad-hoc duties may be required. The individual is expected to be cooperative and flexible in line with the needs of the role, the department and the company.
Technical Competencies:
Qualifications
Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, or ACA.)
Proficient IT understanding.
Knowledge and Experience
Experienced and competent with Microsoft Office especially Excel
Proficient in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central ERP, with hands-on experience and a strong understanding of its core functionalities
Understanding of import and export procedures (highly desirable).
Excellent communication with a variety of people, working with all levels of our business
Experience of budget setting, monitoring and control
Experience of developing and implementing strategies to meet business needs
Knowledge of the regulatory framework
Proven track record as a Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager in an SME or mid-sized business
Skills and Abilities
Ability to develop systems and processes to manage and deliver required objectives
Analytical approach to drive efficiency in stock control and production processes
Ability to monitor and control budgets
Able to effectively manage resources to achieve business objectives
High-level analytical skills with an ability to deliver creative solutions
Ability to build relationships; communicate and negotiate effectively, work under pressure, multi-task and maintain a high level of attention to detail
