Role Overview:

We are seeking a talented and experienced Financial Controller to join our dedicated team. The Financial Controller will play a pivotal role in managing all aspects of accounting and financial operations for the charity, overseeing a \xc2\xa335 million turnover business. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the organisation\'s financial health, stability, and compliance, while also driving strategic financial decision-making.

Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management: Manage and oversee all financial activities of the organisation, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and analysis.
  • Accounting and Bookkeeping: Manage the finance team to ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, ledgers, and other accounting records.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, accounting standards, and reporting requirements, including Charity SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice).
  • Work with the Chair of the Finance Committee and Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee to provide governance and oversight for all aspects of the charity.
  • Work with the Trading company Director in the management and reporting of 60 shops and a recycling business.
  • Team Management: Lead and mentor the Finance team, providing guidance and support to achieve departmental and organisational goals.
  • Financial Planning: Collaborate with senior management to develop financial strategies, budgets, and financial plans aligned with the organization\'s objectives.
  • Leadership: Collaborate and develop strong relationships both internally and externally to deliver the strategic objectives whilst also being part of the sider Senior Leadership Team that will continue to develop the charity in being a great place to work.
  • Internal Controls: Implement and maintain robust financial controls and risk management procedures to safeguard the organization\'s assets and prevent fraud.
  • Donor Reporting: Prepare financial reports for donors and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accuracy in all financial communications.
  • Cash Management: Monitor cash flow and liquidity to optimize financial resources and support day-to-day operational needs.
  • Audit Management: Coordinate and liaise with external auditors during the annual audit process, ensuring a smooth and efficient audit.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with substantial post-qualification experience.
  • Previous experience working in a charity or retail environment is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in managing finance functions and leading finance teams.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and a thorough understanding of financial reporting standards.
  • Ability to handle a \xc2\xa335 million turnover organisation with ambitious growth plans and work within a complex financial landscape.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with stakeholders and team members.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and analytical abilities to support financial decision-making.
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented, and capable of meeting strict deadlines.
  • Adept at managing multiple priorities and adapting to a dynamic work environment.

Salary and Benefits

  • Bank Holidays, 25 days, plus 3 days Christmas Closure (Dates to be confirmed each year).
