Due to continued business growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a
Financial Controller / Finance Executive
to join our expanding accounts team at our Portslade office. You will play a pivotal role in supporting day-to-day finance operations, managing key financial functions, and helping develop a strong internal finance structure to support the next phase of our growth.
This is an ideal role for a highly organised and motivated finance professional with experience in payroll, CIS, and general financial management.
Process supplier invoices and credit notes
Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies
Raise and manage purchase orders
Perform and oversee BACS payment runs
Manage credit card transactions and staff expenses
Communicate with suppliers and managers to resolve queries
Payroll & CIS
Process monthly payroll, ensuring compliance with HMRC and internal policies
Maintain employee records, including holiday, sickness, and benefits tracking
Administer workplace pension contributions and auto-enrolment requirements
Handle Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) returns and submissions
Verify subcontractors for CIS and ensure accurate deductions and payments
Reconcile payroll and CIS reports for monthly and year-end processes
Financial Control & Reporting
Assist with month-end and year-end close procedures
Support the preparation of management accounts and financial reporting
Monitor and forecast cash flow
Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial regulations
Support external audits and liaise with accountants when required
General Administrative & Team Support
Assist with sales ledger, including credit control and invoicing
Handle general ledger postings and reconciliations
Carry out ad hoc financial reporting and analysis
Provide support to the wider admin and accounts team as needed
Handle post and occasional front-line telephone queries
What We're Looking For Essential Skills & Attributes
Proactive and solutions-focused approach
Strong time management and ability to meet deadlines
Good understanding of payroll and CIS regulations
Excellent IT skills, particularly Excel and accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, QuickBooks)
High attention to detail and numerical accuracy
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
AAT qualified or actively studying (ACCA/CIMA also welcome) (Only Preferred)
Minimum 2 years of experience in a finance or controller role
Proven experience in payroll and CIS processing
Experience in the construction or service sector (advantageous)
