Our client, a leading, cutting-edge telecommunications company is seeking a Finance Controller to join their team based in Exeter on a permanent full-time basis.

As Financial Controller, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing financial activities within the organisation and will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Key responsibilities

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in compliance with relevant accounting standards.
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
Financial Planning and Budgeting
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to develop realistic and achievable financial targets.
  • Monitor and analyse budget variances, identifying and explaining significant deviations.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic planning and resource allocation decisions.
  • Develop and maintain financial models and forecasting tools to enhance the accuracy of financial projections.
Internal Controls and Compliance
  • Establish and maintain effective internal control policies and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Conduct periodic reviews and audits to identify control weaknesses and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of tax returns and other regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with external auditors during the annual audit process.
Cash Flow Management
  • Manage cash flow forecasting, ensuring the availability of funds to meet operational requirements and optimise working capital.
  • Monitor banking activities and maintain relationships with financial institutions.
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate investment and funding strategies.
  • Implement effective cash management procedures to minimise risk and maximise returns.
Team Leadership and Development
  • Provide guidance, and mentorship to the finance team.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
Key skills/qualifications/experience:
  • Relevant financial or accounts degree or qualifications (e.g ACCA, AAT, CIMA)
  • Proven experience working as a Financial Controller or similar role, preferably within a medium-large sized business.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations and reporting standards.
