The Role
We are looking to appoint an experienced and commercially aware Financial Controller to lead our finance function. Based at our head office in Kettering. As Financial Controller, you will take full ownership of the company's financial operations and reporting. You will be responsible for leading the monthly and annual reporting cycles, managing external audits, overseeing compliance, and working closely with leadership to shape the financial strategy of the business.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical expertise, audit experience, and the ability to drive improvements across systems, controls, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all aspects of financial management, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
Produce timely and accurate monthly management accounts with insightful commentary
Prepare statutory accounts in line with UK GAAP (and IFRS where applicable)
Oversee all tax and compliance matters, including VAT, PAYE, and corporation tax
Manage the annual external audit process and act as the primary liaison with auditors
Monitor and enhance financial controls, governance, and internal processes
Advise the senior leadership team on financial performance, risks, and opportunities
Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities
Supervise and develop any finance team members or support staff
Support system enhancements and ERP or software implementations
Candidate Profile - Required
Fully qualified ACA or ACCA accountant
Minimum 8 years of post-qualification experience in senior accounting or finance roles
Extensive audit experience (from practice or industry) would be beneficial
Deep knowledge of UK GAAP (and ideally some exposure to IFRS)
Exceptional financial reporting and analytical skills
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g. Sage, Xero, or ERP platforms)
Advanced Excel capabilities and financial modelling experience
Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
The position is based on-site full-time in Kettering
Candidate Profile - Desirable
Experience in a fast-paced SME or growth environment
Familiarity with the automotive, logistics, or manufacturing sectors
Exposure to corporation tax planning, capital allowances, or R&D tax credits
Track record of driving operational efficiencies or system upgrades
