West Lexham is a beautiful rural retreat Centre and holiday destination in the heart of Norfolk, offering restorative stays, creative retreats, and events that celebrate nature, community, and wellbeing. We are looking for a Part-Time Financial Controller to join our friendly and passionate team, helping us manage the day-to-day financial operations of the business including management accounts.
About the Role
This is a hands-on position where you'll take responsibility for the smooth running of all financial processes -- from bookkeeping and payroll to bank reconciliations and credit control. You'll ensure that all transactions are accurate, up to date, and compliant, providing the financial insight needed to support business decisions. You will produce the monthly management accounts and P&L.
Key Responsibilities
Manage all daily bookkeeping and financial entries
Prepare and complete bank reconciliations
Oversee credit control and manage customer and supplier payments
Process and manage payroll for staff and freelancers
Handle VAT returns and liaise with external accountants as needed
Monitor cash flow and maintain accurate financial records
Support budgeting, forecasting, and monthly management reports
Ensure compliance with relevant financial and legal regulations
Contribute to the ongoing improvement of financial systems and processes
About You
You'll be an experienced and proactive finance professional, ideally with a background in SME or hospitality businesses. You'll be confident working independently, with excellent attention to detail and a practical approach to problem-solving.
Essential skills & experience:
Proven experience in bookkeeping, payroll, and financial control
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks or similar)
Strong Excel and reporting skills
Excellent organization and communication skills
Ability to work flexibly and manage multiple priorities
A passion for sustainability, nature, or hospitality is a plus!
