Position Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Financial Controller to join our team at Playbook Engineering. This is a hands-on leadership role with high visibility across the business. You will be a key partner to the CEO and senior management team, driving financial performance through accurate reporting, strategic insight, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day transactional finance including accounts payable, accounts receivable, operator reconciliations, payroll, and expenses
Prepare monthly management accounts for four entities with timely, accurate analysis for senior leadership
Manage short- and long-term cash flow, ensuring strong liquidity across the business
Lead financial planning activities including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
Improve internal processes and reporting timelines through automation and system improvements
Ensure financial statements are compliant with accounting standards and lead the year-end process
Liaise with external auditors, manage audits and respond to queries
Oversee VAT, tax filings, and other financial regulatory submissions
Lead and mentor a small finance team, supporting their growth and development
Collaborate with commercial and operations teams to provide financial insights that inform decision-making
Coordinate with the Star Sports finance team to align group-wide reporting and controls
Qualifications and Experience
Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; professional qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA) desirable
Proven experience in a finance leadership role, ideally within tech or iGaming
Proficient in Sage and Google Workspace or Microsoft Office tools
Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate complex financial information clearly
Experience managing junior team members and building effective finance teams
Highly organised, deadline-driven, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
