Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Controller to lead the financial operations of our boat building company. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing and project finance, cost accounting, and financial planning. You will be responsible for overseeing budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, inventory control, and compliance, while helping drive operational efficiency and strategic growth.

You will also manage and mentor an Assistant Management Accountant that has been with the company for 18 months.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with accounting standards. Monitor key financial metrics and KPIs related to manufacturing performance. Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all financial data.

Cost Control & Inventory

Implement and maintain robust cost accounting systems tailored to a boat manufacturing environment. Analyse production costs, materials usage, labour job costings, and overheads to identify saving opportunities. Monitor and manage inventory valuation, stock levels, and re-work.

Budgeting & Forecasting

Develop annual budgets and rolling forecasts in collaboration with project managers. Conduct variance analysis and provide actionable insights to management.

Cash Flow & Treasury

Manage cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds for operations and capital investments. Liaise with banks, auditors, and financial institutions as necessary.

Compliance & Internal Controls

Ensure compliance with financial regulations. Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting processes.

Strategic Support

Partner with project managers and directors to improve efficiency and profitability. Support capital investment decisions for new boats and projects.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CIMA qualified or equivalent preferred). 5+ years of experience in a finance controller or senior finance manager role, preferably in manufacturing or marine industries. Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory management, and financial regulations. Proficient in Sage50 and advanced Excel skills. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Experience:

Experience in boat building, shipbuilding, or marine manufacturing industries is desired. Familiarity with project-based accounting. Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and their financial implications.
