Job Summary:

We are looking for a methodical, organised, and experienced Financial Controller with excellent attention to detail to join our growing business. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Financial Controller to join a technology-led and innovative business. Working from our high spec Auction Centre in Berkshire, you will be reporting directly to the Commercial Director.

Who will you be working for:

Dawsons are market leading, innovative international Auctioneers & Valuers. We professionally value and sell upwards of 8,000 unique items per year of Fine Jewellery, Works of Art, and Luxury pieces through Live Online and Timed Auctions.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting

Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll (including expenses).

Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and management reports.

Ensure compliance with financial regulations including AML and internal policies.

Manage cash flow.

Assist the Management with forecasting and budgeting processes.

Auction-Specific Financial Oversight

Monitor financial transactions related to consignments, buyer payments, and seller settlements.

Ensure accurate reconciliation of auction proceeds and commissions.

Collaborate with auction specialists to forecast revenue and manage auction-related costs.

Strategic Planning & Analysis

Provide financial analysis to support business decisions and growth strategies.

Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.

Support pricing strategies and profitability analysis for auction lots and services.

Audit & Compliance

Manage relationships with the firms Bankers and Card facility providers.

Company Insurances

Coordinate internal and external audits including being first point of contact for firms Accountants.

Maintain strong internal controls and risk management practices.

Ensure compliance with VAT, PAYE and other tax regulations, and industry-specific financial standards.

Qualifications:

ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified (or equivalent).

Proven experience as a Financial Controller or senior finance role, ideally in an online retail, luxury goods, or auction environment.

Strong understanding of financial systems.

Confident with technology and smart working practices.

Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.

Desirable Attributes:

Experience in the jewellery, art, or online luxury market.

Familiarity with online auctions / sales operations and consignment models.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, customer focused environment.
