Role Purpose:


To manage the statutory and regulatory financial reporting of the Company ensuring compliance with statutory and legal obligations, and to ensure financial risks are managed through application of effective internal controls.

Key Responsibilities



Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

Accounting Policies & Procedures

: To develop and document proper accounting procedures and ensure they are correctly applied in order to meet statutory, regulatory, group and management accounting requirements as set out by law, standards and best practices (including UK GAAP, FRS 102 or IPSAS where relevant).

Financial Controls:

To ensure best practice financial control is maintained at all times and assist with the management of relevant associated risks, designing, developing and implementing key financial controls to mitigate the risks and safeguard company assets. Manages and ensures the integrity of accounting and associated processes underpinning the reporting of results under applicable UK Accounting Standards.

Financial Reporting:

To prepare statutory, regulatory and group accounts for submission to the relevant authorities for publication as required.

Internal & External Audit

: To act as the key contact for external auditors during statutory audit process.

General Ledger

: To ensure the timely, complete and accurate recording of accounting transactions and the integrity of the accounting system including control of the period end closures and management of the General Ledger.

Management Accounting:

To prepare, assist and present monthly, quarterly and annual financial performance and quarterly reforecasting.

Technical Advisor:

Acts as an internal advisor on the identification and implementation of accounting treatments and options available under UK Accounting Standards.

Cash Flow Management:

To monitor, manage, budget and forecast the company's cash flow requirements, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operational needs and strategic initiatives, while identifying opportunities to optimise working capital. To prepare all cash flow statements for the company, ranging from daily actual to longer term projections and provide direct support for the daily treasury function.

Covenant Compliance

: To manage the administration of the company bank accounts and responsibility for loan facility covenant compliance, monitoring, reporting and forecasting.

Budgets & Forecasts

: To assist in the production of the annual plan/rolling forecasts and submit input in a timely, accurate and appropriate manner.

Hedging and Risk Management

: To oversee financial risk management activities, including the execution and accounting of hedging strategies related to energy trading, foreign exchange, and interest rate exposures. To assist the Head of Finance with the company hedging strategy and to monitor the company's hedging requirements, obtain quotations and execute trades according to the hedging policy.

Tax

: To oversee tax reporting and compliance obligations, preparation of annual Guernsey tax computations and timely tax return submissions.

Deputise for Head of Finance

: To be an effective deputy to Head of Finance, to work with, support and substitute for them when required and relevant.

Team Leadership

: Manage, mentor, and develop the Financial Control team, fostering a high-performance culture focused on continuous improvement and professional growth.

Stakeholder Collaboration

: Partner with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives, provide financial insights, and ensure alignment between financial and operational objectives.

Regulatory Compliance

: Ensure full compliance with all relevant financial regulations, tax laws, and internal policies, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of changes in the regulatory landscape.

Local Legislation:

Be aware of and comply with local legislation, specifically related to Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and Data Protection.

: Demonstrate the core values and behaviours of Guernsey Electricity Limited. To carry out ad hoc financial projects as required. Such other duties as may be allocated, and interchange of duties as required.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise



Key skills and personal Attributes:



Must be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA) with 5 years+ PQE preferably in a similar role in a commercial accounting environment A detailed understanding of the latest accounting standards, local company law and local taxation rules together with their application to Guernsey Electricity and its subsidiaries Ability to effectively manage financial risks A minimum of intermediate or advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (Dynamics 365). Ability to communicate effectively with directors, management and staff at all levels Demonstrate a current knowledge of the functional structure of Guernsey Electricity, its mission, objectives, strategies, and critical success factors Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong interpersonal skills Proven leadership and team management abilities. Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy. Ability to work under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines. Proactive and results-driven mindset. Strong ethical standards and integrity
