Purpose of the role:

The Financial Controller will take full ownership of the day-to-day running of the Group's finance function, ensuring accuracy, control, and continual improvement across all companies.
This role is key to freeing up the Finance Director to focus on strategic priorities, by providing confidence that financial operations, controls, and people management are in safe hands.

The postholder will be trusted to operate with a high level of autonomy -- making decisions confidently and independently, ensuring the function continues to run smoothly even in the Finance Director's absence. Mistakes made in good faith are seen as part of learning and leadership development, not as a barrier to progress. As the Group continues to grow rapidly, this role offers significant opportunity to expand influence, shape a best-in-class finance function, and lead meaningful improvement projects across systems, people, and processes.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development:

Lead, manage, and develop the finance team, holding regular one-to-one and team meetings. Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing culture. Coach team members to build technical capability, professional confidence, and career development. Provide direction and clarity to the team, ensuring smooth day-to-day operation with minimal reliance on the Finance Director. Be a visible leader who inspires trust and maintains stability within a growing business.

Financial Operations & Control:

Ensure all financial records across the Group are accurate, complete, and up to date. Oversee month-end close, accruals, prepayments, bank reconciliations, depreciation schedules, and cut-off procedures. Maintain robust internal controls and compliance processes across all entities. Act as a signatory for Group payments, ensuring appropriate authorisation and risk management. Manage and maintain cashflow forecasting and treasury processes across the Group. Drive efficiency and standardisation in accounting systems and processes. Take ownership of operational financial decisions, using judgment and initiative to resolve issues as they arise.

Business Support & Reporting:

Provide clear and timely financial information to support business decision-making. Work closely with the Finance Director and operational leaders to maintain accurate performance reporting and cost visibility. Support the annual budgeting and audit processes. Collaborate with the FP&A function to ensure financial operations align with strategic planning and forecasting.

Continuous Improvement:

Lead initiatives to streamline finance processes, enhance automation, and improve accuracy. Identify and implement best practice across the finance function. Support the introduction of systems and processes that can scale with the Group's growth. Encourage innovation and ownership within the team, embedding a mindset of continuous improvement.

General:

Support the Finance Director and the business with ad hoc projects as required. Be a key point of stability, continuity, and leadership within the finance function as the Group continues to expand.

Person Specification:

Essential:

Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with significant post-qualification experience. Proven experience managing and developing a finance team. Strong understanding of group accounting, consolidation, and controls. Hands-on approach with the ability to balance detail with oversight. Commercially aware with excellent organisational and communication skills. Proactive, dependable, and committed to continual improvement.
