Experienced Financial Controller to lead our finance team, reporting directly to the Board
Management of a team of 3 central finance administrators (purchase ledger, sales ledger, payroll) plus branch based administration support.
Hands-on role with potential to oversee additional key business functions (HR and HSE/Compliance with support from external consultants).
Full-time (part-time considered - minimum 4 days per week). Normal hours of work will be from 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday.
Flexible approach to working hours, commensurate with the demands of the position. This may include evening and weekend work as necessary to fulfil your responsibilities effectively.
Financial Management & Reporting
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, and KPIs.
Manage monthly and year-end closing processes.
Ensure all financial records are maintained in compliance with internal policies and legal requirements.
Coordinate external audits and liaise with auditors.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning
Develop annual budgets in collaboration with department heads.
Monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and recommend corrective actions.
Prepare rolling forecasts and financial projections.
Support strategic planning with financial modeling and scenario analysis.
Internal Controls & Compliance
Implement and maintain effective internal control systems to safeguard company assets.
Ensure compliance with tax regulations, corporate governance standards, and industry regulations.
Review and approve financial transactions to maintain accuracy and integrity.
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
Oversee cash flow planning and manage liquidity.
Optimize working capital through effective accounts receivable/payable management.
Manage banking relationships.
Monitor investments and debt obligations.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team.
Set performance goals and conduct regular evaluations.
Promote continuous improvement in financial processes and systems.
Strategic & Operational Support
Manage Leased Fleet of c. 100 vehicles
Act as a key advisor to senior management on financial implications of business decisions.
Provide financial insights to improve efficiency, profitability, and growth.
Assist in ERP/system upgrades to improve financial reporting and automation.
Risk Management
Identify and assess financial risks.
Develop mitigation strategies for credit exposure, and operational risks.
Ensure insurance coverage is adequate and up to date.
Requirements
Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
Minimum 5 years' industry experience managing teams
Experience in building services or similar, with a mobile workforce
Strong leadership, communication, and organisation skills
Commercial awareness and ability to work with the Board
Clear, confident communication skills.
Proficient IT skills including use of MS Office, ERP & Finance Systems
Professional approach, consistent with the high levels of compliance expected working with predominantly public sector customers.
