Job Description

We're currently working in partnership with a well-established and growing organisation based in North Birmingham to recruit an experienced Financial Controller.
This is a key leadership role within the finance function, reporting directly to the Finance Director and overseeing all aspects of financial control, reporting and compliance. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering robust month-end and year-end reporting, managing a small finance team, and driving continued improvements to financial processes and controls.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities for this Financial Controller role will include:
Leading the monthly reporting process and ensuring timely submission to Group.
Delivering accurate and timely month-end management accounts and supporting reports for Finance Director review.
Maintaining and improving the financial control environment, including oversight of internal audits and controls documentation.
Reviewing and submitting VAT returns on a quarterly basis.
Preparing and reviewing all balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring they are fully supported and accurate.
Managing the stock cycle count process and reporting on excess and obsolete inventory.
Producing the monthly margin analysis and working with Sales to track project performance.
Managing fixed asset accounting, capital expenditure and associated reporting.
Supporting the budgeting and forecasting process and producing detailed variance analysis.
Preparing cashflow forecasts and explaining variances to Head Office submissions.
Supporting other departments in developing and monitoring KPIs.
Key Requirements
We're looking for a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with:
Demonstrable experience in a similar Financial Controller or senior finance role.
Strong technical accounting skills, including statutory reporting, tax, and internal controls.
Solid understanding of financial systems and reporting tools - Cognos and EFACS experience would be advantageous.
Proven ability to lead and develop a team, while also being hands-on when needed.
A commercially aware, detail-focused mindset with strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Previous experience within a manufacturing or operationally focused business is desirable. * Degree in accountancy, economics or business.
