Financial Correspondent

London, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

About The Role

The Telegraph is seeking a fearless and well-connected Financial Correspondent to join its business team.

This role will focus on the heart of the UK and global financial system: from the boardrooms of major banks and fund managers to the fast-moving world of hedge funds, private equity and cryptocurrency. You will also cover the politics and policymaking that shape these sectors, with a particular focus on the City of London as one of the world's leading financial hubs.

As well as covering the institutions that shape global markets, you will interrogate the politics and policymaking that govern them -- from Westminster and Whitehall to international regulators. Your reporting will explain not just what is happening in finance, but why it matters to our readers' money, the economy and the country.

The role requires a journalist who can deliver agenda-setting scoops, sharp analysis, and in-depth features. You will be expected to cultivate a wide network of senior contacts in finance, politics, and regulation, and to stay ahead of the competition on breaking stories and trends.

Key Responsibilities

Lead coverage of banks, fund managers, hedge funds, cryptocurrency and the City of London. Report on the political and policy environment affecting financial services, including regulation, lobbying, and the intersection of finance and government. Deliver exclusives, interviews, and authoritative features that set the agenda for our readers. Spot trends and developments in financial markets and institutions before they are widely reported. Build and maintain a detailed book of senior contacts across finance, politics, and regulation. Collaborate with colleagues across the business and political desks, as well as contribute to broader newsroom coverage when required. Develop engaging digital content optimised for online audiences, while also delivering high-quality print journalism.

Key Skills

Significant experience reporting on financial services, markets, or business news. A proven track record of breaking exclusives and developing original story ideas. Strong network of relevant contacts across banking, asset management, hedge funds, crypto, or financial policy. Numerically literate, with the ability to spot stories in data and financial results. Skilled at writing concise, engaging stories for both digital and print audiences. Digitally savvy, with an understanding of digital storytelling, social media, and SEO.

Desirable Skills

Strong understanding of the UK's financial regulatory environment. Familiarity with cryptocurrency markets and digital assets.
