About the scheme
--------------------
At NFU Mutual, we're more than just an insurance organisation - we're a comprehensive financial services provider dedicated to supporting our customers' financial wellbeing. Our Financial Services teams offer tailored solutions that help clients navigate their financial journeys with confidence. With clear, trusted advice and top-notch customer service, we empower our customers to create solid financial plans that reflect their unique circumstances now and, in the future.
Our Financial Services teams are at the forefront of this mission! The Operations team is all about keeping things running smoothly, managing our pension, investment, and protection products from the moment a customer signs up through to policy maturity. Our Financial Advisors love getting to know our customers, helping them find the right life insurance, pension, investment, and wealth management products that fit their needs. And our Governance and Risk team is here to make sure everything runs efficiently and safely, implementing smart processes and keeping us on track with regulatory guidelines.
As a graduate, you'll find yourself in the thick of our Financial Services action. The three-year scheme will see you rotate through each of our teams, gaining valuable insight and hands-on experience. These rotations will help you develop a diverse skillset while also giving you the chance to discover which area sparks your interest most.
What you can expect
-----------------------
In your first twelve months, you'll kick off your journey with our Head Office Teams where you'll learn the ropes of engaging with customers and handling their enquiries. This is the perfect starting point to get to know our customers, products, and processes. After that, you'll spend some time on the road supporting our Sales Managers with lead generation and even have the chance to work in one of our local branches, shadowing a Financial Advisor to see what the role is all about. Just a heads up - there'll be ad-hoc travel involved during the first year!
Throughout the scheme, you'll also gain experience in various departments to get a feel for the Financial Services strategy. In your final year, you'll step into the role of a Non-Advised Sales Consultant, reaching out to NFU Mutual customers to discuss our Financial Services offerings. This fast-paced role will sharpen your sales skills and deepen your product knowledge--a fantastic foundation if you're looking to become a Financial Advisor. Alongside this, you'll also be given the opportunity to take on some project work, such as supporting our Agency Network with upcoming changes, whether that's regulatory, systems, or processes.
Plus, you'll receive support as you work towards your Diploma in Financial Planning, ensuring you're fully equipped for your career ahead.
Your future
Throughout the scheme, you'll strengthen your core insurance skills, earn CII qualifications, and develop essential competencies to set you up for a successful career. You'll be fully supported along the way, with a dedicated buddy and mentor, plus a strong network of current and former graduates. As you near the end of the scheme, a careers coach will be there to guide you in planning your next steps.
It's not all about work either. We encourage our graduates to get involved in extracurricular activities, from volunteering and organising charity or social events to representing NFU Mutual at industry events, all in line with our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework.
Application Process
If your application is shortlisted, you'll be invited to complete an online assessment designed to measure your potential for success, such as your ability to learn and solve problems. Should you be successful, you'll move on to a short video interview. The final stage will be an in-person assessment centre, where you'll participate in a variety of activities, including a group exercise, a role-specific exercise, and a skills-based interview. Assessment centres will be taking place on Monday 24th and Friday 28th November.
Please note this vacancy may close at any time once sufficient applications have been received. Early submission of your application is therefore encouraged.
What we're looking for
--------------------------
Our entry requirement for this scheme is for you to have obtained, or be working towards, a minimum degree classification of 2:2. You don't need a degree in a particular area - we're interested in your passion for learning, curiosity and your potential. You'll need to be someone who can thrive in a target-driven environment, approaching work with a positive attitude.
For our Financial Service Advisory schemes, we'll also be looking out for:
Your ability to build strong relationships
Strong communication and active listening skills
Adaptability and resilience
Teamwork and collaboration
Effective time management and organisational skills
Self-management and initiative
If you're able to bring these, we can teach you the rest regardless of what degree you studied.
Work experience
If you've gained industry experience or completed a placement year during your degree, that's fantastic! But don't worry if you haven't - it's not a requirement for the scheme. What we do ask for is some previous work experience where you've had the opportunity to interact with people.
At NFU Mutual, we support an inclusive workplace and value all the differences that make us unique. We celebrate the creativity and innovation that comes from diverse perspectives and experiences and share a common vision of doing the right thing for our customers and employees.
We recognise that some candidates may experience barriers during the recruitment process. So, we encourage candidates to discuss any adjustments or accommodations they need to be the best they can be throughout our recruitment process.
We're proud to be a Disability Confident Employer, a Race at Work and Women in Finance Charter signatory and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, regardless of age, ethnicity, disability, neurodiversity, gender, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background.
