Fire Alarm Technician



Location:

London / M25 (Office: East London)

Key Responsibilities:



Fire Detection & Life Safety Systems



Install, service, maintain, and commission fire alarm systems (conventional, addressable, and networked). Ensure compliance with BS 5839-1:2017 and BAFE SP203-1. Carry out fault-finding, diagnostics, and repairs; escalate complex issues where needed. Perform routine inspections in line with maintenance schedules. Complete all documentation, including test sheets and commissioning certificates. Assist with system programming, cause-and-effect testing, and interface verification.

Emergency Lighting



Install, test, and maintain emergency lighting systems (BS 5266-1:2016). Conduct periodic inspections and ensure accurate logbook entries. Report faults or recommended upgrades to senior staff.

AOV (Automatic Opening Ventilation) Systems



Install and maintain AOV and smoke ventilation systems (BS 7346-8:2013 / BS EN 12101). Carry out functional tests and confirm integration with fire alarm systems. Record results and report any issues or non-conformities.

Security & CCTV (Desirable)



Assist with installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting CCTV, access control, and intruder systems. Support configuration and testing of IP-based CCTV or integrated fire/security interfaces.

General Duties



Work safely and follow company H&S policies, site procedures, and RAMS. Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle. Communicate professionally with clients and colleagues. Ensure work meets company quality standards and deadlines. Attend training, toolbox talks, and CPD sessions.

Qualifications & ExperienceEssential



3-5 years' experience working on fire alarm systems (install, commissioning, maintenance). Competent with conventional, addressable, and networked systems (e.g. Advanced, Kentec, Morley, Gent, Notifier, Apollo). Strong understanding of BS 5839-1:2017, BS 5266-1:2016, BS 7346-8:2013. Confident in fault-finding, routine servicing, and certification. Strong technical and electrical/electronic knowledge. Excellent attention to detail and high-quality workmanship. Good written and verbal communication skills. Full, clean UK driving licence.

Desirable



Security/CCTV/access control experience. Manufacturer training (Advanced, Kentec, Gent, Notifier, etc.). Experience in BAFE SP203-1 environments. ECS/CSCS card or relevant site certification. Experience working in commercial, residential, or public sectors. IPAF, PASMA, or similar qualifications.
