Position: Fire Door Joiner
Department: Fire & Facilities - Installation & Remedial Works
Reports To: Site Supervisor / Contracts Manager
Location: Various sites across the UK
Role Overview
The Fire Door Joiner is responsible for the installation, adjustment, maintenance, and repair of fire-rated door sets in line with current UK Building Regulations, the Fire Safety Act, and relevant BS/EN standards. This role requires a high level of technical joinery skill, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently across live sites. The joiner will also be responsible for ordering required materials and hardware directly from approved suppliers to ensure smooth project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Fire Door Installation & Remedial Works
Install and replace FD30 / FD60 fire-rated door sets, frames, and associated ironmongery.
Carry out remedial works including:
Adjusting hinges, closers, latches, and locks.
Replacing seals, lippings, drop-down seals, glazing, and signage.
Repairing damaged frames, leaves, and threshold gaps.
Ensure all work meets BS 8214, BS 476, EN 1634, and current statutory requirements.
Materials & Supplier Management
Identify required materials, hardware, and consumables for each job.
Place orders with approved suppliers (e.g., Howdens, Screwfix, Ironmongery Direct, Door-Stop, etc.).
Collect materials when needed and ensure they meet the correct fire-rating specification (CE marked / Certifire approved).
Maintain accurate records of orders, delivery notes, and material usage for each site.
Compliance & Documentation
Complete job sheets, inspection forms, and before/after photographic evidence.
Follow company RAMS, safe-working practices, and site-specific requirements.
Ensure all installations and repairs comply with the Building Safety Act 2022 (Section 156).
Health & Safety
Adhere to Fire & Facilities policies and industry best practices.
Conduct dynamic risk assessments and report any hazards or non-compliance immediately.
Ensure tools and equipment are used and maintained safely.
Communication & Site Conduct
Communicate clearly with site managers, clients, and office staff.
Provide updates on job progress, material requirements, and any issues discovered on site.
Represent the company professionally at all times.
Required Skills & Experience
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry & Joinery (or equivalent experience).
Proven experience installing or repairing fire doors.
Strong knowledge of fire-door legislation and compliance standards.
Ability to order materials confidently and understand fire-rating requirements.
Full UK driving licence.
Ability to work independently and manage workload efficiently.
Desirable
FIRAS or BM TRADA Fire Door Certification.
Experience completing digital inspection reports.
Asbestos Awareness, Manual Handling, and Working at Height training.
