We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a full-time Fire Resistance Laboratory Technician to join our team. In this role you will play a key role in supporting the Fire Protection Association's UKAS Accredited Fire Testing and Research Unit Laboratory. Working within the Furnace Testing team, the role is primarily hands-on, involving the preparation, execution, and reporting of fire resistance tests on building materials.

Blockley - Laboratory, GL56 9LH.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure accurate verification, measurement, and documentation of samples prior to testing.
Participate actively in furnace testing, working closely with the test team to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
Handle and manage all test documentation, ensuring the accurate recording and reporting of results in line with laboratory procedures.
Operate a range of equipment, including forklifts and plant machinery, as required for the testing process, ensuring proper safety and operational standards are upheld.
Follow established procedures in compliance with UKAS standards.
Engage with clients effectively by handling technical inquiries and providing timely communication related to test results and processes.
Collaborate with colleagues across the Standards Testing Department to ensure smooth workflow and adherence to testing standards.
Assist in maintaining and operating health and safety systems, ensuring safe working practices during fire tests and other laboratory activities.
Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including the reporting of near-miss incidents.
Promptly identify and report any issues or discrepancies during testing or sample preparation, ensuring the line manager is informed immediately to prevent delays or errors in the testing process.
Support the internal Quality Management System (QMS).
Follow and implement 5S and lean procedures to maintain an organised and efficient working environment.
Key Competencies/behaviours:
Essential
Hands-on practical ability, demonstrated through previous experience or tasks.
Solid understanding of safe working practices, particularly in the operation of machinery and equipment.
Highly detail-oriented, with the ability to follow instructions and procedures accurately.
A proactive attitude towards learning, showing a willingness to develop new skills and enhance existing knowledge.
Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable
An understanding or keen interest in mechanical engineering, construction, or related fields such as plumbing or domestic electrical installation.
Familiarity with technical disciplines or trades.
Strong problem-solving abilities, with a methodical approach to troubleshooting technical issues.
Key Education and experience
Essential
GCSEs (or equivalent) in a technical subject, Maths, and English Language.
Competence in using basic computer software, including Microsoft Word and Excel, with the ability and willingness to learn new software, such as datalogging systems and video editing tools.
Desirable
City & Guilds NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline.
Experience working with fire testing equipment or similar technical machinery.
Forklift operation certification or willingness to obtain certification.
First aid or fire safety training.
