Description



OpemView have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Fire & Security apprentice. You will be working alongside different engineers to assist them in various duties and specifically with respect to their role as an engineer working on public safety, life safety and security systems. The role is based around the North East & Newcastle.



Daily duties include:



Assisting the Lead Engineer with day-to-day reactive tasks. Demonstrate a desire to learn at all times Have a keen interest in various security systems including Fire alarm systems, Door Entry, Access control, CCTV, Warden Call, Intruder and network installations A desire to understand and promote best practice of electrical and electronic principles. Always follow current H&S guidance Ensure working environments are safe, clean and tidy Be punctual when attending sites Meet targets for both company and customer

You will learn:



Comply with safety legislation, codes of practice, risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work and apply control measures. Complete functionality tests of systems and components during commissioning systems. Apply and implement system design, planning and installations including additional components to existing systems. Carry out takeover procedure, diagnose and repair faults. Operate ICT equipment and systems to store, retrieve, manipulate, transmit or receive digital data and electronic information. Comply with environmental and sustainability, regulations and standards. Complete functionality tests of systems and components during handover of systems. Carries out risk assessments. Communicate with others verbally for example, internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers using sector specific terminology. Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, as part of a team. Consult and engage with occupants or others who are or could be affected by work (for example vulnerable, older, and disabled people) and respond appropriately. Communicate with internal and external stakeholders using sector specific terminology through written means. Plan and install systems cabling. Carry out maintenance activities on fire detection and alarm systems and their components. Carry out maintenance activities on intrusion alarm, access control, video surveillance (CCTV) and their components. Entry requirements

Maths & English GCSE at grade C/4 or above Drivers licence is preferred, but not required, if you do not hold a Full UK Drivers licence this will be required within 1 year of any applicants turning 17

Training to be provided



Upon completing the apprenticeship you will achieve a Level 3 in Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Apprenticeship Standard.



The training will be completed with our provider Skills for Security, who are the leading provider of FESS apprenticeships.



The location of the training is TBC and will be on a block release basis (generally 1 week every 8-10 weeks) with food and accommodation provided by OpenView if an overnight stay is required.



Things to consider



General shift pattern is Mon-Fri 40 hours per week, however some weekend and evening work may be required. (Shifts TBC).



15,704 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age.

Following the apprenticeship, you can look to either specialise as an engineer down a particular route, or look to go down the management pathway as a supervisor, moving into a service manager.
