We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Firefighters at the 423rd Civil Engineering Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF) Alconbury, United Kingdom.
What will be your primary role?
You will be responsible for performing structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities, which may include large multi-storied buildings, industrial areas, and/or base storage facilities as well as hazard and risk assessment techniques in completing initial incident analysis, driving and operating firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers and aerial ladder trucks. As part of the role, you will perform rescue of personnel and a variety of first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare the victim(s) for transport to a medical facility. You will maintain firefighting equipment and fire station facilities and comply with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures performing work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment. In addition, you will perform dispatching duties within the Fire Alarm and Communications Center (FACC) as directed, receiving emergency and routine calls, dispatching equipment to emergencies and making all notifications and requests. Your hours of work will be 192 hours over a 4-week period on an as rostered schedule (this will be working any 5 days out of 7) where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization's flexible working policies. You will be required to pass and maintain a pre-employment Firefighter physical which must be renewed annually. The position requires your ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. This position is located at RAF Alconbury, but the incumbent may be required to work at the RAF Molesworth Fire station when directed by management.

What are the Key Skills required for this role?
1. Knowledge of basic and specialized structural firefighting equipment (fire alarm system operation, fire extinguishing equipment operation, etc.), techniques, and procedures; of basic and specialized building design, construction, and occupancy; to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity; and of the principles of hydraulics as they pertain to water flow, water pressure, water levels, line (friction) losses, etc.
2. Knowledge of hazardous materials emergency response procedures, equipment, and identification.
3. Knowledge of emergency first aid techniques; and of safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and/or technical orders.
4. Skill in operating communications equipment.
5. Ability to maintain good working relations; and to communicate orally and in writing.
6. Ability to lift and carry heavy loads; and to apply emergency first aid techniques.
What are the conditions of employment for this role?
You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential. You will be required to complete a 12-month probationary period. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. The work requires you to drive a motor vehicle. A valid LGV Category C license is required. Training to achieve this can be made available. You must participate in a mandatory physical fitness program. This position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. You are required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management. This position is considered operational; therefore the you are entitled to receive an Operational Firefighter Pay Supplement for working an approved USAFE 'as rostered' shift pattern totaling 192 hours (over four weeks), which may include weekends and public holidays. You may be subject to recall. You may be subject to random drug testing. This position requires you to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program. You are required to be certified by the Department of Defense (DOD) Firefighter Certification System as Firefighter I, II, HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations and obtain certification in Driver Operator. You may be required to also obtain certification For Telecommunicator, Level I & II. Please note: Training plans will be established and monitored by the supervisor and may specify the length of time the employee has to obtain certification. Some training may require recertification on a regular or intermittent basis. This is a Primary position; UK retirement rules apply. This position is located at RAF Alconbury but you may be required to work at the RAF Molesworth Fire station when directed by management
