Role Profile



Are you calm under pressure, quick-thinking, and passionate about helping others? Our Fire Control Operators are the first point of contact in emergencies--the clear, reassuring voice when someone needs help most.



Our Control Room team plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of our communities by being the first point of contact during emergencies. Whether as a Contol Room Operator or a Crew Manager, you'll be at the heart of our emergency response operations, helping to save lives and protect property.




What You'll Do:




Answer 999 calls and establish the nature and location of emergencies. Mobilise and support fire crews and resources to incidents. Provide survival advice to callers in danger. Monitor, test, and record equipment to maintain operational readiness. Support operational incidents and provide critical information. Handle emergency and non-emergency calls, providing calm and professional assistance. Use cutting-edge systems to coordinate effective responses. Support colleagues and the public during high-pressure situations.

Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and make quick decisions. Strong communication skills--both oral and written. Excellent IT skills and attention to detail. Proficient in absorbing verbal or written information and applying in a practical or theoretical manner

Essential Skills:




Ability to operate a VDU keyboard Proven ability to absorb and apply information quickly.

Recruitment Process:




As part of the recruitment process for the Firefighter Control Team, candidates will be required to complete several stages. This will include attendance at an Assessment Centre, followed by a formal interview for those who are successful at the assessment stage.

, with interviews to follow during the week commencing

30 March 2026

for candidates who progress beyond the Assessment Centre.
