We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Firefighters at the 423rd Civil Engineering Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF) Alconbury/Molesworth, United Kingdom.

What will be your primary role?



The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Firefighter (Hazardous Materials Technician/Basic Life Support) assigned to a crew engaged in structural firefighting and rescue operations. You will drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity to respond to the presence or potential releases of Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT), for the purpose of stopping or controlling the release, and to conduct performance of noninvasive emergency medical procedures.

One year's specialized experience in a similar role at the appropriate level is required.



You will be required to be certified by the Department of Defense Firefighter Certification System as Firefighter II, HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations, Apparatus Driver Operator - Pumper, Apparatus Driver Operator- Aerial, Apparatus Driver Operator- Mobile Water Supply.

You will also be required to be certified and maintain National Registry Emergency Medical Technical-Basic certification within 12 months of being appointed to the position. Failure to complete the required certifications within the 12 month period will result in separation from the position. If failure to obtain certification is due to circumstances of the employer, management will work with the employee to satisfy the requirements within a reasonable time-frame.

What are the Key Skills required for this role?



1. Knowledge to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity; and of the principles of hydraulics as they pertain to water flow, water pressure, water levels, line (friction) losses, etc.

2. Knowledge of basic and specialized structural firefighting equipment (fire alarm system operation, fire extinguishing equipment operation, etc.), techniques, and procedures; and of basic and specialized building design, construction, and occupancy.

3. Knowledge of HAZMAT emergency response procedures, equipment, identification, and mitigation actions.

4. Knowledge of basic life support techniques and protocols; and safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and/or technical orders.

5. Skill in operating communications equipment.

6. Ability to maintain good working relations; to communicate orally and in writing; and to lift and carry heavy loads; and to conduct complete HAZMAT incident analysis; and to apply basic life support techniques and protocols.

7. Employee is required to achieve IFSAC certification up to HAZMAT Technician in order to maintain sufficient numbers across each watch/shift to meet operational needs and be part of a HAZMAT Team.

8. Employee is required to achieve IFSAC certification up to Confined Space Technician in order to maintain sufficient numbers across each watch/shift to meet operational needs and be part of a Confined Space Team.

What are the conditions of employment for this role?



1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations and may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties or to attend necessary training.

2. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to your grade and skill set.

3. You must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance and participate in a mandatory physical fitness program. You will be required to complete a 12-month probationary period.

4. This position may be considered operational; therefore, you are entitled to receive Operational Firefighter Pay Supplement for working an approved USAFE "as rostered" shift pattern totaling 192 hours over 4 weeks, which may include weekends and public holidays.

5. You may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and may be subject to recall. This position may also be coded as mission essential.

6. The work requires you to drive Large Goods Vehicle sized fire apparatus. A valid UK category C driver's license is required. Training to achieve this may be made available.

7. You may be required to work the Emergency Communication Center and/or substitute at Crew Chief level for shift absences, if certified at this level.

8. Pre-Appointment and annual physical/health screening is required. Appointment may be contingent upon passing a physical examination. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. This position requires you to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program. You are required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.

9. The Local National Direct Hire (LNDH) Program does not participate in regular drug testing; however, positions covered by this document may be subject to drug testing upon reasonable suspicion of substance abuse, and safety mishap or accident testing.

10. Special Retirement Provisions Authority: This is a Primary operations position; UK retirement rules apply.
