POSITION SUMMARY

A fitter performs a variety of tasks using hand tools and air powered tools to achieve a suitable finish in preparation for following operations. In addition, fitters must also be able to apply the final finish to sale items, post machining including profile, finishing and trimming. This position is best suited to an individual with a high level of practical ability and hand eye co-ordination.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Read (customer) documentation, drawings and understand the specifications.

Read and understand the applicable documentation (work descriptions, drawings) and regulation.

Ensure component correct finish of components, including removal of sharp edges, cleaning of holes, using hand power tools and hand de-burring to tech drawing and working to SOP.

Part mark / hand etch product as per specifications/instructions provided.

Provide rework rectification to any parts following machining mismatches to engineering drawings or should parts not meet inspection standards.

Visual inspection of the part.

Ability to prepare work to the required drawing defined fitting standard.

Maintain hand and air tools to the correct standard.

Highly proficient at the use of hand fitting tools including abrasives and air powered tools.

Use of equipment such as shot blast cabinet, belt sanders etc.

Undertake the necessary operations in accordance with internal and external regulations.

Administration of work performed.

Identify and resolve process / production problems, including reporting.

Identify opportunities for improvement and act on these, including reporting.

The proactive support of engineering in the design of new processes and working methods.

Act as a trouble-shooter / trainer for colleagues.

Cleaning of the workplace and implementing improvements, e.g. 5S.

Preventive maintenance.

Any other duties deemed suitable by your line manager and as reasonably required by the business.

EDUCATION

Formal engineering qualification is desirable.

Time served apprenticeship desirable.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Minimum 2 years' experience of fitting required.

Experience working in a fast-paced production environment producing machined components to high tolerances.

Must have the technical aptitude to understand technical drawings and tolerancing.

Experience of aerospace desirable.

Must possess comprehensive knowledge of geometric tolerances as related to tool and fixture design.

Apply measuring and adjusting tools.

Lean manufacturing, operational excellence and modern manufacturing management processes.
