Job description
We are the Environment Agency, and we work in partnership with government, local councils, businesses, and communities to protect people and businesses from flood risk and the impacts of climate change; perhaps the most serious long-term threat to the environment, people, and wildlife that we face.
Working in partnership with other organisations and across Environment Agency teams, this role will see you leading on the management and provision of flood risk data and information.
This data and information will be in a variety of formats such as technical reports, flood models and databases and will be provided to deadlines set out in our customer charter to a variety of internal and external customers.
We provide continual opportunities to help grow your technical knowledge and leadership to help develop your career.
A typical week may also involve:
Managing the team inbox and email correspondence.
Providing general support to the team in the delivery of Flood and Coastal Risk Management projects/schemes
Processing Flood Risk Activity Permits
Supporting our incident response responsibilities
Travelling to sites to liaise with our partners and build catchment flood knowledge
Shadowing others on complex workstreams to coach your technical skills and develop your career
We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share, so please clearly include any information regarding your preferred working arrangements on your application.
The team
The Partnership & Strategic Overview teams sit within our Flood & Coastal Risk Management department to manage flood risk in Kent and South London. We are a supportive team and pride ourselves in excellent decision making based on continually improving evidence and our own skills.
We influence the location and design of new development through planning and permitting advice. We also oversee flood risk modelling and mapping to inform decisions and new flood risk schemes.
Experience/skills required
You'll possess great communication skills and experience of dealing with people from different backgrounds. Your passion for providing excellent customer service and protecting the environment will help you influence others to achieve the best outcomes for our area. You'll also be able to grasp technical concepts around flood risk.
The following qualities/experience are also desirable:
Experience using Geographic Information Systems (ArcGIS) is preferred, including basic geo-processing (creating, editing, importing, and exporting datasets).
Accurate data and information management
Able to form effective partnerships to deliver environmental and flood risk outcomes
You will be welcomed and supported by our dedicated, passionate team and given all the training and guidance needed to succeed, so if you possess these qualities and/or experience and would enjoy a career working in a role that helps you make a difference to our environment, we welcome your application.
Full UK driving licence is essential.
Contact and additional information
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The role will be based in our office near West Malling, Kent (other office options within Kent are possible) and interviews will be held in early November.
