We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Floor Layer to join our construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining various types of flooring in commercial and residential settings. This role requires a strong understanding of construction techniques, the ability to work with hand and power tools, and a keen eye for detail to ensure high-quality finishes. The ideal applicant will be organised, reliable, and capable of interpreting schematics and technical drawings to execute projects efficiently.
Responsibilities
Prepare subfloors by cleaning, levelling, and repairing surfaces to ensure proper flooring installation
Measure and cut flooring materials accurately using hand tools and power tools
Install a variety of flooring types including carpets, vinyls, laminate, lvt, carpet tiles, safety flooring (
MUST:
Wet room cap & cove, welding) in accordance with specifications
Follow schematics and technical drawings to achieve precise placement and alignment of flooring materials
Use construction painting techniques where necessary for finishing touches or surface preparation
Operate hand tools such as chisels, hammers, saws, and trowels effectively and safely
Utilise power tools including drills, saws, sanders, and grinders to facilitate installation processes
Collaborate with team members to complete projects on time whilst maintaining safety standards on-site
Maintain a clean work environment by organising tools and disposing of waste materials responsibly
Training new floor layers
Qualifications
Proven experience in construction or flooring installation preferred
Proficiency with hand tools and power tools used in flooring work
Knowledge of carpentry principles and techniques relevant to floor laying
Ability to read and interpret schematics or technical drawings accurately
Experience with construction painting is advantageous but not essential
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
Excellent attention to detail ensuring high-quality workmanship
Good physical fitness with the ability to lift heavy materials and stand for extended periods
Relevant qualifications or certifications in construction or carpentry are desirable but not mandatory
