Flying Start would like to recruit Assistant Practitioners, applicants must be qualified to level 2 or willing to work towards Level 3 in a recognised qualification i.e. CCLD, NVQ or similar in accordance with Social Care Wales Qualification.



35 hrs, 30 hours, 17.5 hrs posts available for childcare and creche 39 weeks pro rata.



Flying Start is an initiative from the Welsh Assembly Government, aimed at making a positive difference to the life experiences of children, ensuring a flying start in life. With this initiative now expanding across areas of Newport, we are seeking to appoint Early Years Childcare Assistant Practitioners.



The Newport Flying Start Team are looking for enthusiastic and reliable Assistant Practitioners to work as part of a team, under the leadership of the Senior Practitioners to promote the vision and values of the Flying Start programme.


The posts hours to be agreed Monday-Friday over 39 weeks. The post commences as soon as possible, on a fixed term basis until 31st March 2026.



The post holder will be required to take holidays which coincide with Flying Start closures.

The candidates will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as genuine commitment to the care and development of very young children. The candidates will possess level 2 standard literacy as a minimum, GCSE English grade C or above.



A relevant Childcare qualification Level 2 (or above) or willing to work towards Level 3, experience of working with children and an understanding of child development and awareness of childcare policies and practice. Knowledge of Flying Start or similar is desirable.



There is an expectation for all Flying Start staff to be flexible to the needs of the service, supporting settings on a citywide basis, including supporting children with Additional Learning Needs, floating between setting covering absences of staff and will include After School Club (ASC) providing play opportunities for children aged 2 - 10 years, Monday to Friday between 15:00 and 18:00.



The recruitment process will involve an interview and observation in the childcare room with senior members of the Early Years and Childcare Team.
