Job Specification: Sandwich Food Preparation Supervisor

About Us: Pettigrew Bakeries are a well-regarded, community-focused bakery with 4 sites across Cardiff. We are committed to providing high-quality artisan breads, pastries, and coffee within a welcoming environment.

Reports To: Manager

Job Purpose: The role is ideal for a kitchen trained chef, or food handler interested in great ingredients and kitchen management who needs more sociable hours.

To design and deliver on our excellent savoury food selection, including make all the sandwiches for our multiple sites across Cardiff.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and execute the daily preparation and production of high-quality savoury food and a large volume of sandwiches to be distributed across our multiple sites. Maintain compliance with all UK Food Hygiene and safety regulations, ensuring the kitchen and all preparation areas operate to the highest standards of food safety and hygiene. Manage stock levels and rotation, place orders and source ingredients based on quality, locality and fair pricing. Lead the design and develop new savoury food items and sandwich concepts. Work collaboratively and effectively within the team and comfortable working solo. Maintain clear and professional communication with colleagues and Managers. Provide assistance to other team members as needed.
Person Specification:

Essential:

Experience in a professional kitchen environment. Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work both independently and as a collaborative team member. A positive and proactive work ethic. A commitment to learning and development. A genuine interest in high-quality food and beverage A solid understanding of HACCP principles and practical experience in maintaining high food hygiene standards.

Strong Preference:

Supervisory experience in a food production environment.

Desirable:

Previous experience in an artisan Bakery. Formal Food Hygiene certification. Knowledge of artisan bread and pastry production.
Working Conditions:

Flexible working hours, including availability for weekends, ideally 4 or 5, 8 hour shifts a week. Day time only - early start, early finish. Requirement to stand for extended periods. Physical capability to lift and carry items as needed up and down a staircase. You may be required to work at other bakery sites, or markets, on occasion within the Cardiff area. Will require some solo working as well as working within a team.
