Role Purpose:
The Food Safety and Compliance Manager is the site expert for regulatory and food safety compliance, responsible for upholding the highest standards across our primary meat facility.
This role ensures all products, processes, and systems at the site meet current legislation, retailer requirements, and internal policies. Key areas of focus include audit readiness, governance, risk assessment, and continuous improvement to safeguard brand integrity and support food safety excellence.
The role leads HACCP, TACCP, and VACCP programmes, manages internal audits and food safety culture initiatives, and maintains critical documentation and systems. Additionally, the position deputises for the Food Safety and Quality Manager (Primary) on office-based matters and contributes to employee food safety training and development across the site.
This is a full time permanent position based at Merthyr Tydfil.

Food Safety Standard Development:
Implement and maintain the Kepak Meat Division UK Technical Standard at the site in accordance with BRCGS, food safety legislation, industry standards, and customer requirements.
Food Safety Compliance:
Site food safety training compliance and implementation
Audit Performance:
Achieve successful outcomes in internal and third-party, food safety and regulatory audits.
Compliance Reporting:
Provide accurate and timely reporting on site compliance performance, non-conformance trends, audit results, and corrective actions.
Regulatory & customer alignment:
Achieve successful outcomes in internal and external document audits
Risk and Cost Assessment:
Identify site compliance risks and evaluate site-level cost impacts resulting from changes to standards, ensuring transparent decision-making and accountability.
Requirements
Role Qualifications and Skills:
Qualifications in Food Science, Food Technology or equivalent, with strong knowledge of food safety and quality assurance.
In depth knowledge of food safety regulations, HACCP, TACCP, BRCGS and customer standards and UK/EU regulatory frameworks
Level 4 HACCP a requirement
Understanding of HACCP, BRC standards, GMP, and food safety regulations
Lead Auditor qualifications are preferred.
Knowledge of animal welfare standards
Experience in managing and conducting audits and liaising with external stakeholders including customers, auditors and regulatory authorities
Experience in regulatory affairs and quality management systems within food manufacturing
Proven expertise in food safety compliance, customer standards and audit management.
Experience integrating customer standards into processes and managing regulatory changes.
