Role Purpose:



The Food Safety & Quality Manager is responsible for ensuring that all food products are manufactured in compliance with regulatory standards, customer requirements, and internal quality and safety expectations. This role leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of food safety and quality systems (e.g., HACCP, GMP, GFSI schemes) to protect consumers, maintain brand integrity, and support operational excellence.

The Food Safety & Quality Manager deputises for the Head of Technical for Bury Site.



Key Responsibilities:



Food Safety Management: Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Food Safety Plan and HACCP program. Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, CFIA, ISO, BRC, SQF, or other applicable regulatory and certification requirements. Lead the preparation for regulatory, third-party, and customer audits. Quality Management: Collaborate and support the Quality Systems Manager to develop the Quality Management System (QMS) including policies, procedures, and documentation control. Monitor product quality standards, specifications, and testing programs to ensure consistency and compliance. Drive root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for quality and safety issues. Leadership & Team Management: Directly manage the Quality Assurance and Hygiene teams, ensuring effective staffing, scheduling, and performance management. Provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities to build technical expertise and leadership capability within both teams. Set clear expectations and performance goals, and ensure accountability for food safety, sanitation, and quality standards. Collaborate with HR and Operations to recruit, train, and retain high-performing team members. Quality Culture: Champion a strong culture of food safety and quality throughout the organization by engaging employees at all levels. Promote ownership of quality at the production floor level, ensuring that food safety and product excellence are seen as shared responsibilities. Drive initiatives that increase awareness, accountability, and commitment to quality standards, including recognition programs, continuous feedback loops, and open communication across departments. Act as a role model and advocate for quality, embedding it into everyday decision-making and operational practices. Training & Culture: Provide training to plant employees on GMPs, food safety practices, allergen control, sanitation, and quality standards. When required, conduct regular refresher training. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and food safety awareness across all departments. Collaboration & Reporting: Be an effective member of the BLT Collaborate with Middleton Technical Manager to ensure alignment and compliance where possible, share best practices. Collaborate with VQA Manager, to ensure supplier quality programs, including approval, monitoring, and performance evaluation are completed. Partner with Operations, NPD, Supply Chain, and Procurement to ensure quality and safety objectives are met. Manage supplier quality programs, including approval, monitoring, and performance evaluation. Analyse and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to food safety and quality. Manage the creation of Quality & Quality Culture related reports regularly to ensure company communications are clear

Candidate requirements



5 or more years' experience working in a Quality or Technical Function Higher/Level4 HACCP Higher/Level 4 Food Safety Training Comfortable using Microsoft programmes * Familiar with industry standards and audits
