We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Food Service Workers at the 48th Force Support Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF) Lakenheath, United Kingdom.
What will be your primary role?
The primary purpose of this position is to work in food preparation pantry preparing vegetables, salads, desserts, box lunches, and other food items, to assist cooks, and to perform related food service work. The incumbent will assist cooks in food preparation by weighing, measuring, and assembling; set up food service counters, steam tables, dining tables, and salad bars; clean equipment in kitchen and dining areas as well as utilize established safety and sanitation practices, rules, regulations and procedures

F-35/F-15 fighter wing. Historically, the 48th FW has been the foundation of USAFE's combat capability and remains so today. The Liberty Wing led the El Dorado Canyon raids into Libya in 1986 and was the first F-111 fighter unit to deploy to the Gulf during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. The Liberty Wing also anchored NATO forces during Operations Deliberate Force and Allied Force. Since September 11, 2001, the 48th FW has played a key role in antiterrorism operations, flying combat missions and providing combat support in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
What are the Key Skills required for this role?
1. Knowledge of food service sanitation standards including procedures to prevent contamination, spoilage, and waste.
2. Knowledge of special procedures in preparing food from standardized recipes for regular and modified menus,food terminology, and serving information.
3. Knowledge of food service safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
4. Knowledge of basic arithmetic in order to count number of tables/trays required, to determine number of servings a container will yield, and to count change when required to perform cashier duties.
5. Skill in the use and maintenance of kitchen tools and food service equipment such as knives, mechanical dishwasher, and powered cleaning equipment.
6. Ability to organize food service work in a logical sequence, execute tasks quickly and accurately, and meet strict meal schedules.
7. Ability to interpret food service instructions, specifications, portion control cards, menus, diet cards, and standardized recipes.
8. Ability to read and understand simple signs, names of food items, and instructions.
What are the conditions of employment for this role?
You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
May be required to work rotating shifts.
The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Emergency overtime may be required.
Incumbent is required to pass a pre-employment physical examination.
The work may require the employee to possess Food Handler's Card, and use/wear appropriate uniforms, safety, and sanitation equipment.
May be required to attend Quality Improvement Training and to participate in section Quality Improvement Teams and data collection efforts.
Your hours of work will be 39 hours per week on an as rostered schedule (this will be working any 5 days out of 7 - hours between 0600-2359) where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization's flexible working policies.
