About the team
We are recruiting for a Fraud Investigator to join our highly respected, award-winning Anti-Fraud Service in Hertfordshire.
At the Shared Anti-Fraud Service (SAFS), we protect the public purse from the ever-present threat of fraud. Our dedicated team of fraud and financial investigators, intelligence officers, and data analysts work tirelessly to combat fraud in partnership with councils, housing providers, the DWP, HMRC, and the Police.
Working across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, we deliver a comprehensive criminal investigation service, provide expert advice and guidance on fraud and corruption, carry out proactive counter-fraud exercises, utilise advanced data analytics, and deliver training and awareness sessions.
Whilst the team is based at our Stevenage Offices, we have a very flexible approach enabling us to work from anywhere, encouraging a healthy work life
About the role
This role is for a Fraud Investigator within our Volume Team, requiring someone who can manage a high-volume caseload, meet demanding targets and timescales, and deliver excellent outcomes for our partners.
We are seeking a self-motivated and driven individual--whether you're looking for a career change or aiming to develop your existing skills in fraud prevention, detection, and investigation.
As part of our counter-fraud operations, you'll gain hands-on experience investigating a wide range of allegations, including housing, council tax, education, blue badge, insurance, and social services fraud.
Working alongside experienced investigators, you will undertake tasks such as:

• Collating evidence and maintaining records in compliance with CPIA 1996
• Conducting PACE-compliant interviews with witnesses and suspects
• Analysing data and presenting findings in clear, comprehensive reports

You'll learn and grow quickly, developing the skills and knowledge needed to lead your own criminal and civil investigations and prepare case files for legal action.
The role demands strong interpersonal skills--both written and verbal--and the ability to engage effectively with officers at all levels, often in challenging situations, to identify offences and secure evidence. While you'll be part of a supportive team, you'll also need to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
For candidates not already ACFS-qualified, we offer the opportunity to complete the IIA Practitioner Level 4 apprenticeship standard and Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist training, supporting your professional development.
About you
Essential:

• Ability to travel across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire
• Competent in using Microsoft Packages (Word Excel Outlook)
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity
• Ability to manage a high-volume caseload and meet demanding targets and deadlines
• Good communication skills at all levels, both written and verbal, to engage effectively with officers, partners, and stakeholders
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development

Desirable:

• ACFS / PIP or equivalent
• Experience in Local Government
• Experience in law enforcement
• Ability to conduct PACE-compliant interviews with witnesses and suspects
