An exciting opportunity has arisen for a freelance technical draftsman to join Zefyr, a well known architectural fabricator that specialises in the design manufacture and installation of architectural facades.

The successful candidate will be working alongside a dedicated, enthusiastic team, committed to maintaining constant growth within the company.

Office working hours are 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, and when working on projects, you will need to be contactable between these times. However, your work schedule will be determined by yourself ensuring that drawings are completed within timeframes discussed at the start of each new project

We are looking for an experienced

Freelance

Technical Draftsman

with a strong background in architectural metalwork to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing detailed drawings for approval and fabrication, covering a wide range of bespoke metal products such as louvres, plant screens, solar shading, brise soleil, balconies, staircases, and balustrades. This role requires a high level of technical accuracy, creativity, and knowledge of fabrication techniques.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare detailed

approval drawings

and fabrication-ready layouts for architectural metal products including: Louvres & ventilation systems Plant screens & enclosures Solar shading & brise soleil systems Balconies, staircases, handrails, and balustrades Develop 2D/3D models and detailed sections using CAD software (The use of AutoCAD or any other relevant CAD software that can convert to or uses DWG format is essential; SolidWorks/Revit or similar an advantage). Interpret architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and client requirements to produce accurate technical designs. Ensure all drawings meet project requirements, fabrication standards, and relevant building regulations. Revise and update drawings in response to engineer, architect, or client feedback. Coordinate with the Zefyr design, project management, and fabrication teams to ensure drawings are practical and manufacturable. Assist with producing "as-built" drawings at project completion. Maintain accurate drawing registers and version control throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications & Skills

Proven experience as a draftsman in

architectural metalwork or related industries

. Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, materials, and installation methods for metal products. Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, or similar required; 3D modeling tools such as Sketch Up or Solid Works desirable, but not essential). Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with the design team, at Zefyr Good time management, able to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines. Experience with

bespoke architectural features

and knowledge of fixing/mounting systems. Would be highly beneficial Previous involvement in projects for commercial, residential, or industrial developments.

Portfolio Requirement

It would be beneficial if applicants can provide a

portfolio of previous drawings

showcasing experience with architectural metalwork. This should include examples of:

Louvres, plant screens, and solar shading systems Balconies, staircases, or balustrades Any bespoke metal fabrications or architectural features Approval drawings and fabrication-level detail drawings
