Role Overview
We are seeking a warm, reliable, and adaptable individual to join our hospice cafe team as a Front of House Assistant. This role is central to creating a welcoming environment for patients, visitors, volunteers, and staff.
You will primarily manage the cafe's front of house operations, ensuring excellent customer service, cleanliness, and presentation. In quieter periods or when a volunteer is available, you will also support the kitchen team with basic food preparation, cleaning and portering duties
Key ResponsibilitiesFront of House Duties:
Greet and serve customers, staff and family members with warmth, empathy, and professionalism.
Operate the till and handle cash/card transactions accurately.
Prepare and serve hot and cold drinks, light snacks, and meals.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the cafe area, including tables, counters, and service stations.
Monitor stock levels and replenish supplies as needed.
Ensure compliance with food safety and health & safety regulations.
Kitchen Support Duties (as required):
Assist with basic food preparation (e.g., sandwiches, salads, plating).
Wash up and maintain kitchen cleanliness.
Support the kitchen team during busy periods or staff absences.
Follow food hygiene procedures and assist with stock rotation.
Person SpecificationEssential:
Friendly and approachable with excellent customer service skills.
Ability to work flexibly and as part of a team.
Willingness to support kitchen operations when needed.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Basic understanding of food hygiene and safety standards.
Desirable:
Previous experience in a cafe, hospitality, or healthcare setting.
Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2, training will be provided if not held).
Allergen training (training will be provided, if not held)
Till operation experience.
Experience of working with volunteers.

This role is based in a hospice cafe, where compassion and sensitivity are essential. You will be part of a supportive team contributing to the comfort and wellbeing of patients and their loved ones as well as the general public.
