Applications are invited for exceptional candidates to join the Neuroendocrine Cancer Service within the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board as a full-time fixed term Clinical Fellow in Gastroenterology & Neuroendocrine Tumours for 12 months in the first instance. The fixed term post is available from August 2025.
It is an exciting time to join the Health Board with expansion of the nationally commissioned South Wales Neuroendocrine Cancer Service, a tertiary cancer service for patients with Neuroendocrine Tumours (NETs) and an accredited European Centre of Excellence. This is an innovative, patient-centred, tertiary service achieving awards including the British Society of Gastroenterology service prize and other national awards. As one of the larger centres in the UK, it receives approximately 200 new patients a year.
The majority of patients have Gastroenteropancreatic-NETs (GEP-NETs) involving elements of specific luminal gastroenterology, endoscopy, oncology, and hepatobiliary medicine expertise. The service has been developed through clinical leadership working with gastroenterology/hepatology, endocrinology, surgery, oncology, radiology, nuclear medicine, palliative care, and pathology teams, identifying patients' goals through co-production. 2.6 WTE Clinical Nurse Specialists provide nursing support and coordination for patients across South Wales alongside a NET dietician.
Your main duties will be to manage patients in the NET service in an outpatient setting and within multidisciplinary team meetings. Other clinical duties, on rotation, include providing care for Gastroenterology and Hepatology patients on the ward and other outlying acute ward areas. There will be an opportunity to contribute to research and service evaluation activities as part of the national service and participate in educational activities. As a service heavily involved in digital transformation, there will be an opportunity to participate in digital health technology projects and develop skills in this area.
You will be able to find a full Job description and Person Specification attached within the supporting documents.
The post is based at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, with some duties required at the nearby University Hospital Llandough.
