To carry out home installations, cabling, and fibre splicing for the FTTH/Openreach network, ensuring high-quality service delivery. Responsible for installing, testing, and troubleshooting fibre optic systems in residential settings. The role includes working as part of a team, adhering to safety standards, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
1.2 Position in Organization
The Home Installation Engineer is part of the Field Engineering Team.
Reports to the Project Manager on a per-project basis.
2. Key Result Areas
Completion of home installations within the agreed schedule.
Installation quality in line with standard specifications.
Rectification of deficiencies within the agreed time frame.
Adherence to Health and Safety (OHS) standards.
Customer satisfaction and service excellence.
Effective use of resources to ensure cost-efficient installations.
3. Main Tasks
Work as part of a team delivering PIA Installation works.
Carry out rodding and roping, fibre blowing and cable pulling.
Perform OH/UG Fibre installations on the FTTH/Openreach network.
Ensure compliance with Safety at Street Works and Road Works (Code of Practice).
Supervise site setup and ensure NRSWA compliance.
Ensure compliance with Permit/Noticing Requirements.
Read schematics and prepare as-built drawings.
Identify and report site issues, near-misses, and interventions.
Communicate regularly with the Project Manager regarding changes or deviations.
Provide accurate measurement of work undertaken.
Identify blockages and create A55 documentation with correct markings.
Splice various types of fibre optic cables including single mode, multimode, stranded, and ribbon.
Install closures, couplers, ODFs, and BT Cabinets.
Conduct optical continuity and conformance testing.
Perform risk assessments and ensure Health & Safety compliance.
Troubleshoot technical issues using OTDR/ILM/power meter.
Conduct daily maintenance and checks on splicing and testing equipment.
Lead teams when necessary, ensuring high productivity and efficiency.

Pertinent Experience
1-2 years' experience working on the FTTH/Openreach network with a background in Civil works.
Hands-on experience in cabling, splicing, and troubleshooting.
Experience leading teams or performing supervisory duties.
Professional/Technical Competence
Knowledge of fibre splicing and testing procedures.
Understanding of ODN materials and specifications.
Experience with Openreach/PIA infrastructure.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
Understanding of NOC documentation and approval processes.
Basic IT skills and use of project management tools.
