Overview


We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Learning Mentor to support and guide children in their educational journey. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in early childhood education and experience working with children, particularly in special education settings. This role is essential for fostering a positive learning environment and helping students achieve their academic and personal goals.

Our client is based in Plymouth and will have regular full time work for the right candidate, experience with alternative provision has been requested.



Responsibilities



Provide one-on-one mentoring to children, focusing on their individual needs and learning styles. Assist with academic subjects such as maths and literacy, employing effective tutoring techniques. Implement behaviour management strategies to promote a positive learning atmosphere. Support children with special educational needs through tailored teaching methods, including applied behaviour analysis when necessary. Facilitate engaging activities that enhance social skills, communication, and emotional development. Maintain open communication with parents and educators regarding the child's progress and any concerns. Proofread educational materials to ensure clarity and accuracy before distribution. Encourage participation in physical education activities to promote overall well-being.

Qualifications



Proven experience working with children in various settings, including childcare, preschool, or special education environments. Strong communication skills to effectively interact with children, parents, and colleagues. Background in early childhood education or related fields is highly desirable. Familiarity with speech therapy techniques is an asset. Ability to manage behaviour effectively while fostering a supportive learning environment. Experience in teaching physical education or mentoring is beneficial. Knowledge of tutoring methods across different subjects, particularly maths and literacy. What We're Looking For



A friendly, patient, and enthusiastic approach to supporting children's learning. Experience working with children in a school, nursery, or similar setting is an advantage. Knowledge of SEN (Special Educational Needs) support strategies is beneficial. Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 TA or equivalent) or a willingness to train.
